Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Before and After Table

September 12, 2011 By Elizabeth@ Pine Cones and Acorns 6 Comments

I have been on the hunt for a small table or bookcase for the landing at the top of our stairs. This area has been a bit of a challenge because although the wall is large the space available is a moderate size, so whatever piece I put here cannot be too wide, otherwise it juts into the walking path. Originally, I tried a huge oil painting, and that looked good but once I installed my art wall the painting did not match. Then I thought of  a mirror but the mirror sort of floated and looked a little strange.

Another idea was a bookcase, which I loved because the house is overrun by books but again space is a challenge, and the bookcase stuck out too far.

Eventually after several incarnations I located this small table, it was an ugly orange brown color so I decided to paint it with Annie Sloan Chalk paint. I used old white and just lightly distressed the edges, it is hard to see in the photos but it turned out great. After a few accessories and candles were added I was finished. I was very happy to have the candles in the recent storms, these two hurricane candle holders were instrumental in lighting the hall during the recent power outage from hurricane Irene.

I love how easy this paint is to work with! And of course to distress. I would recommend however wearing a mask, there is a lot of dust from the sanding.

I love how this table turned out and am happy with the space…for now.

After

I have also painted a few mirrors to try here above the table to take up some of the blank space. I will show you those later this week.

Update: The tile did not go in last week, I won’t go into the details but hopefully they will go in tomorrow. Unfortunately, the big 4 x 7 foot hole in the eating area will be there for a bit. Still waiting on the insurance adjuster.

Perfectly Imperfect

    Oh Elizabeth,

THIS LOOKS WONDERFUL!!! I did the same thing with an old library table I found this summer at a yard sale. I did not use Anne Sloan's paint, but all the same, my table really came out like yours, with some distressed spots and I am so happy with it! DON'T YOU JUST LOVE TRANSFORMATIONS????

GOOD JOB MY FRIEND! And I can't wait to see the tile job!!

    Happy day, Anita
