Welcome September

September 2, 2011 By Elizabeth@ Pine Cones and Acorns 8 Comments

September

The breeze taste

of apple peel. The air is full

Of smells to feel-

Ripe fruit, old footballs,

Burning brush,

New books, erasers,

Chalk, and such.

The bee, his hive,

Well-honeyed hum,

And Mother cuts

Chrysanthemums.

Like plates washed clean

With suds, the days

Are polished with

A morning haze.”

~John Updike~

"The bee, his hive, well-honeyed hum". I love that. I do like the onset of autumn. One of my favourite times of year.

A wonderful post Elizabeth. Thank You!

I love the beginning of autumn, your picture's and Updike's poem sum it up so well. Though I'm clinging onto summer for just a few more days before I return to London.

We would go blueberry and peach picking with my grandmother and fill bushels of peaches to take home for her to bake with and the can for the winter. I’m not sure how much help we were because I am pretty sure that we are our body weight in peaches. We were a sticky mess by the end of the day with a belly full of Michigan’s finest peaches. Those were the days. #peaches #ncpeaches #thefirstpeachoftheyear #naturesfinest #summerfruit #peach #pineconesandacornsblog #memories
