Christmas Decorating Around my House

November 26, 2011 By Elizabeth@ Pine Cones and Acorns 14 Comments

Family Room

I love Christmas and I love decorating for Christmas! I love the lights, the ornaments, the greens, the smells, the sights and sounds of the holidays. What is not to love?

Love Christmas lights.

I have been collecting Christmas decorations and ornaments for over thirty years, I love taking each special piece out of the boxes and remembering where I got it, or who gave them to me. This year however I decided to change things up a bit.

A little bit of silver for the family room
Pine cones of course!

The fireplace is double sided, the other side is in the keeping room next to the kitchen. I wanted to keep the three pears that I usually have on the fireplace so this year instead of moving them I decided to decorate around them. I am trying a “natural” theme in this room; with birds, “berries” and pine cones.

Keeping room fireplace. These red balls remind me of the berries on the holly bushes all over the yard.

I enjoy watching the birds come to visit every morning. So after visiting the antique store I came up with these little wooden birds and signs that all reference birds. Paired with a tree, lights and an antique well bucket, I think it turned out great.

More birds
Bird theme tree, complete with birds, bird signs, pine cones and of course acorns.
Tree in antique well bucket.

This is just the start, I do not want to overload you with all of the decorations. More tomorrow!

When do you decorate at your house? How do you decorate? Do you have a theme? Do you decorate the same every year? What are your favorite ornaments or decorations?

I hope you have a wonderful weekend, relax, and enjoy your time with family and friends.

Lovely Elizabeth….I have a passion for birds too. Drives my family crazy, they often ask how many bird related items one person could have and my reply is always the same, Never Enough! I love all your decorations..you have inspired me to get on with mine. Thank you. 🙂

Like you Elizabeth, I love decorating for the holidays. Its a big deal for me too….I get that music blaring, and light a few holiday-ish scented candles to put me in the mood and away I go. I have a lot of decorations too….a lot of mine are in the golds, silvers and winter whites, I buy a lot of fresh garland and put it all over, can never have too many pinecones to decorate with either and every year add some ornaments to my growing colleciton. I love cherubs and birds especially. I love all you have done, you are so getting me in the mood but my hands are tied as we are hopefully going to be moving within a few weeks and before I even unpack I know I will want to decorate for Chrsitmas!!!!!!! Great job..thank you for sharing, cannot wait to see more!

Oh dearest, it is so calming to see your home! And like you, I enjoy my birds. I have a small collection of glittered birds with real feathers for their tails and the NATURAL element has to be my favorite off all Christmas décor, but with a BIT OF GLITTER INVOLVED!!!!!!!!!

SOOOOOOOO GOOD to see you visit yesterday; yes, much TURKEY was had and even chopped up some leftover meat into my famous SPINACH salad yesterday with pepita nuts and walnuts, chopped apple. Ruben and his pal ate the desserts!!!

I so enjoy seeing all of you precious girlfriends come to visit. THAT FELTED MOUSE IS THE RAVE OF THE PARTY!!!!!! Ruben said he wants to buy him for me!!! We shall see if the artist gets back to me for our request.

Well dear one, I am feeling a lot better today and I just pray that my return to work will not cause another relapse; so many of the kids are sick this time of year!

    HAPPY SATURDAY MY DEAREST! Anita

Elizabeth, what delightful decorations. I love the contrast between the two rooms. I'll start decorating next week, I ventured into the garage to get the boxes down and really need to go through them!
Thank you for the kind mention, I did some more 'english' baking today, which I will be posting during the week.

I am going to have to stop reading all the fabulous blogs before I start decorating for Christmas – the theme keeps changing, and it might never get done with all the great ideas I am finding, like yours!
