New Years Resolutions: Do you or Don’t You?

January 2, 2012 By Elizabeth@ Pine Cones and Acorns 5 Comments

Happy 2012! I have been thinking this week about New Years resolutions, and I have wondered if I am the only one that makes several and then about 6 months into the new year, sort of forgets about these promises to myself?

I decided this year that I will not be making any declarations to lose 20lbs, run a marathon, not swear, go to bed early, forgo sugar, and all sorts of other things like that.

What I decided to do is try to simplify a few of the things in my life that I make complicated. I also decided that I will no longer beat myself up and get so upset when people do not change themselves to be what I think would make them better or have a better life( this one is going to be a real challenge for me).

Finally,  I decided that I am going to try to do one new thing a week that is out of my comfort zone, nothing so crazy as jumping out of a plane, or going on a polar expedition but more along the lines of learning new things and trying to expand my horizons. Such as learning to sew, or a new program on the computer; reading books from genres that I do not usually find interesting, or being open to trying new recipes and foods that I normally would not eat.

Little things, little changes…what about you? Do you have resolutions? I would love to hear them and then if you need encouragement to stay on track or some motivation I will be here to cheer you on!

Happy New Year Elizabeth! I don't make New Year's resolutions mainly for the reason you stated, they fall by the wayside. Good luck with yours!

    Hugs!

Yes little things for me too….nothing too ambitious otherwise i know it won't get done. But about 3 major ones and a few littles ones, that way it stands a good chance I will achieve them!
I passed on an award to you this morning…..congrats, its well deserved!

Only allow myself one, this way its realistic. If I achieve it early then I go on with a few others. Love the one thing a week, thats a great idea. Enjoy your new year.

I absolutely love your idea of trying a new thing each week. I am on the same page. I would love to learn how to knit this year, and also go back to my needlepoint project and finish it. It's exciting to look at a brand new year ahead and inspiring to hear about your goals!

    My precious friend,

I AGREE WITH YOU 100%! Doing something at least once a week that SCARES YOU! Something challenging and safe, of course! But to go out of that comfort zone. Ahhhh….to leave this earth knowing that you tried to reach for your wildest dreams.

HOW ARE YOU? I go back to work tomorrow. All is well here, it is so lovely outside; it is bitterly cold, but sunny.

    BE WELL! Anita
