Pine Cones, Acorns and Life

January 12, 2012 By Elizabeth@ Pine Cones and Acorns 8 Comments

Simple beauty. Nature is filled with so many beautiful things, if we just open our eyes and see. Pine cones and acorns happen to be one of my favorite “treasures” from nature. Each time I go walking and find one I feel like I am finding a piece of gold! I felt the same way when I lived in Florida and walked the beach daily to find shells. The individual beauty of each one of these little specimens is just so cool to me.

Recently I came across these images in my photo files and thought I would share the art of Coe &Waito.

These little pine cones and acorns are produced byCoe &Waito in Canada. This design firm was created by two students Alissa Coe and Carly Waito, who met in college,  became friends, and then partners. Each piece of their work is exquisitely crafted don’t you think?

The simplicity of the porcelain, the incredible detail of the pine cones and the little acorns sitting on the the tree branch makes them seem incredibly life like.

Coe & Waito is not currently producing these pine cones and acorns, although from the information on the website it looks like you can purchase what is left in their stock. The are doing some fabulous installations that you should check out! I love this one of the jellyfish, each one hand sculpted.

All images from Coe&Waito

Carly Waito is currently showing her work atNARHAWL.

On a side note, as I mentioned yesterday, we are “bracing” for a snowstorm here in Wisconsin. Honestly when I heard that on the weather report I almost fell on the floor laughing.

You would think that Milwaukee never got any snow the way they are going on about the terrible weather and blowing snow and bracing for a rough night! In fact the exact opposite is true, last year when I was visiting this very same week we received 14 inches in one night, and I shoveled every single snowflake because the snow blower did not work! I am not complaining, I personally love winter, or at least I love it for the couple of weeks that I am visiting.

How is your winter? Are you having unseasonably cold or warm weather?

Have a great day!

    Happy Thursday Dear Friend!!
I did not know you were visiting family again, that's wonderful…
I hope you are feeling much, much better!
That is so funny you mention this "bracing for a storm"..:) We have the same thing coming from some of our meteorologists…I wonder if they are from a warmer clime originally, or they're just fabulously dramatic..in any case it's kind of funny:))
I do hope that your snowfall is not "too" overwhelming..or at least that the snow blower is working now:)
It is starting to feel like true January after a few truly incredible 50 degree days!
Like you, I do love it to feel like Winter when it's actually Winter..love the coziness of it all.
And these porcelain creations are magnificent!
I also marvel at the gifts nature bestows upon us every day…
Stay warm and cozy, dear Elizabeth, and enjoy your family!
    Hugs to you,
    – Irina

    Hello my friend!
Those porcelain pieces are exquisite. Must check out her site!

We have had unseasonably warm weather here, but apparently are now in for a cold snap. Heating up!!!

Hope you are having a good week too. I will keep my eyes open for another tea caddy for you, sorry you missed out, it didn't last long!

    Take care Elizabeth.

Those are just gorgeous…so delicate and beautiful.
I am waiting for our winter..geez…the weather Gods are really confused, not a snow flake in sight, I think the trees and flowers are getting a bit confused, I better get at least one big snowfall, then we happily skip directly into spring!

    the faintest of dusting

Aren't those cones and acorns stunning? It's been very warm here in London, but I've noticed frost on my car this morning, so I think we will have a cold weekend, but no snow forecast, I can't imagine 14inches, we usually get 1/2 to 1 inch, 2 or 3 times a winter. And it disappears within a day. However it still manages to shut the city down!
Enjoy your wintery weather, hope you can take some photographs.

I love those pinecones and acorns, they're really beautiful. As for our winter it has finally arrived as of yesterday and it isn't good because today it's mixing with ice on top of the snow…ugh!

Good morning friends! I need prayers, lots of pray Good morning friends! I need prayers, lots of prayers. My nephew was hit by a car on Thursday while riding his bike. To respect my brothers wishes I can’t say more. I believe in the power of pray and I would appreciate it tremendously if you could pray for my nephews full recovery as well as for his parents who are by his side. Sadly because of Covid they cannot be with him together at the same time. Thank you friends I appreciate this more than I can say. This is how I feel tonight, as if I am seeing life This is how I feel tonight, as if I am seeing life through the blur of tears and sorrow. Sunday night my friend of 34 years lost her husband of 36 years, because of Covid he did not get to meet or hold his newborn grandson. Then just an hour ago we received a call that my husbands best friend died of a massive heart attack this morning. Sometimes life just knocks you to your knees and all you can do is pray for the loved ones you’ve lost, cherish their memories and let your time with them sustain you until you meet again. Then you ask God for the strength to get up and move forward. #life #loss #givemestrength #givemestrengthlord #pray
