What am I? A Butter Mold? A Springerle Mold?

April 10, 2012 By Elizabeth@ Pine Cones and Acorns 7 Comments

I recently came across this wooden mold at an antique store. I have tried to find out what it is but have not had any luck.

So, I thought I would ask all of you. Have you ever seen anything like this?

Obviously the mold is round and is about 18 inches across. The back had these two supports.

I think it is a butter mold, my thinking is that it is from the bottom of a large Firkin like mold.

At first I thought it was a Springerle mold, otherwise known as a cookie mold. But from all of the molds that I have seen none of them have supports on the back and none have been this large.

Let me know what you think, or send me a few links of where I may find some information. I would greatly appreciate your help.

I hope that you have a great day!

    Good morning my friend!

I have never ever seen anything like this in wood, only in metal! Do you have any idea how old it is? IT IS WONDERFUL…I wonder if it is American or European?

How was your Monday my dear? BACK TO WORK FOR ME….now must run…back later! Anita

Long time ago I used to collect butter molds and your piece definitely is not from a butter mold. It would have a place on the back where the wooden handle would screw into. Not sure what your piece is but it's a beautiful piece of workmanship.

    Enjoy your day!

I am no help, but the piece is very unique. I think that it would be wonderful just used as a display piece. I would love to know if you find out what it is. Thanks for sharing with Share Your Cup. Now a new follower.

    Hi,
I know it's 3 years later, but this is a cheese mold. The handles on the back are the giveaway. The motif on the front is also very common to cheese molds. If you do a Google or eBay search, you'll see other similar molds.
