Spiced Strawberries and the little things

May 14, 2012 By Elizabeth@ Pine Cones and Acorns 6 Comments

Hello, happy Monday! Did you enjoy your weekend? And all of you mom’s, was your day as special as you are?

My weekend was great, perfect really, beautiful Spring weather in the 70’s, my husband home and my little pup snuggled up next to me. Just a little work and a lot of relaxing.

I managed to read two books and a stack of magazines and catch up with all of my favorite blogs, I have to ask, do you have as hard a time as I do reading books lately with all of the great blog posts out there?

Although I typically post about  things I bake I thought I would share one of my easy, tasty and favorite things to eat in the summer and there is no oven needed.

Strawberries with spiced sugar and whipped cream. This may be my new favorite thing to eat for breakfast, lunch and dessert. I actually made this by accident, although I frequently make strawberries with a bit of sugar I had never thought to add spices.

Necessity though it the mother of invention, I was out of plain sugar but I had a container of spiced sugar left from a “Fall” recipe I was testing, so I thought…why not. I do not think I will eat strawberries with plain sugar again.

Spiced Sugar:

3/4 cup sugar

1/2 tsp ginger

1/2 tsp ground cloves

1 tsp cinnamon

1/2 tsp all spice

1/2 tsp nutmeg

Mix all of the above together and store in a Tupperware container.

Sprinkle the amount you like over sliced strawberries and let sit for a bit to make a little syrup. For dessert, add whipped cream.

I hope you have a wonderful week! Enjoy all of the little things in life!

I have strawberries in the frig so I'll have to try this out today. Yes I have a touch time getting through magazines noe since I'm always on the blogs but it's fun and a little more social this way!

    Enjoy your day!

Have you tried them with pepper or with balsamic vinegar? Both lovely too. I have been reading and am now behind with the blogs I follow, it is tricky to manage both isn't it?
The Hermes exhibition in London was fabulous, I went from there to drool in the shop on Bond Street, I couldn't stretch to anything from there though so treated myself to shoes from Ferragamo and a bag from Coach (I am thrilled we have Coach now in London).
Have a great week, Jude x
