Dreaming of a White Winter

January 16, 2013 By Elizabeth@ Pine Cones and Acorns 18 Comments

Hello and Good morning! I do not know about you but this is a very strange Winter. Typically we have snow at this time of year don’t we or at least many of us do. We have the cold, frigid temps down pat but the snow seems to be alluding my grasp.

I know there are many that do not like snow but I personally love it! It reminds me of my childhood and happy snow days.

The day off from school and time frolicking in the yard with my siblings, building snowmen and forts, sharing warm cups of cocoa while our mittens dried and then out for more fun.

Now days I especially enjoy it if it falls on the weekend; the perfect excuse to do nothing or to get out with my snowshoes and wander around for a few hours.

It is magical to be out in the dark with the stars twinkling and the soft falling snow glistening in the moonlight.

Sadly I have only seen a few flurries this year. What about you? Have you had a snow day or two or are you experiencing some unseasonable weather as we are?

I hope you have a great day!

    Hello Elizabeth:
We too share your love of snow and without it the winter never really seems to be right, or so we think. We have had a certain amount here in Budapest where it continues to lie – far more in the countryside – but we are keeping our fingers crossed that we have not seen the last. We think not!

Your images are lovely – may your wishes be fulfilled.

SO AGREE! I have been complaining to anyone who will listen that I feel cheated so far this winter! IF we are going to have to endure brutally cold temps…at least give us some snow! I mean we have seen very little…and I am really craving a big beautiful snowfall! I am keeping my fingers crossed yet as my husband likes to remind me we still have several weeks left of winter!

Tina I we are kindred spirits! I love a beautiful snowfall and have been complaining to deaf ears…

I hate the brutal cold, cold I do not mind with snow but not just brutal cold.

      Have a great day!

Elizabeth if you want snow and to see iimages like your pictures above then pack your bags and come on up…it's snowing! We just went through our January thaw, normal, snow was all gone as of yesterday and today we're to get six inches of the stuff. Dylan dog is going to love it!

Debra, I would love to come to your neck of the woods! It is so beautiful there from your photos I would love to see it in person.

I hope that Dylan is keeping you amused and enjoying every flake!

Same here my friend. A few days before Christmas, we had the most magical snow fall. Everything looked like a hostess cupcake with frosting! But now, we just have cold and a couple of days ago, the January thaw took a lot of the snow we had, AWAY! And there is NO snow in the immediate future.

WE CAN DREAM, HOWEVER! And that chocolate you sent is OUT OF THIS WORLD UNREAL!!!!!!! Anita

No snow here but I'm in the Deep South. Only occasionally do we get it but we get excited when we do. It's been raining here for days, which is out of the ordinary. We sometimes have ice storms, which aren't nearly so exciting as snow!

Here in CO we're strangely short on snow too! I'm with you, it's just not winter without snow. I miss it. Sure it may be nice to have 50 degree weather in January, but it's just not the same! I keep telling myself we still have a month and a half of winter left…

I could not agree more…it does not seem at all like winter. The weather has been all over the place but no snow. As you say 11/2 months left so maybe I will see more than a few flakes.

      Take care

Elizabeth, Our weather is all messed up as well. We usually do not have a decent snow until late January early February, certainly not 10 inches on Christmas day. I am still waiting to wake up to snow on the ground, schools closed and a full pantry. Bonnie

We've had one snowfall thus far and it was not enough to shut the schools down. The temps have been in the mid twenties to low thirties.. and clear (very unusual for WA state) I just love it when we get a good snow fall. The foothills get lots of snow and the roads often close ~ it's too hilly and the ice is a problem. I'm ready for a few snow days! Great photos Elizabeth!

Your photographs are beautiful and ever so enchanting, I love snow. Waking early or stepping outside late at night after the snow has covered the word in a white, crystalline blanket is a sight and sound unlike anything else in the world.
This has been our second winter in a row without a measurable snowfall. I think it affects the minds and bodies of us all, we need that definitive mark of winter to keep our mind and body clocks running smoothly.
On a much more serious note, without snow, our serious drought continues, our beautiful trees continue to suffer and as I read recently, allows the germs and viral element in our environment to flourish, growing even stronger and more difficult to eradicate.
I pray we are blessed with a gorgeous beautiful snow for our eyes, spirits, health and well-being.
Thank you for a most beautiful share.

No snow in the Twin Cities, my dear…but we are at below zero for the next couple of days…I miss the snow as well…
I do hope you get some soon!
