Post Holiday Lights and Smiles

January 5, 2013 By Elizabeth@ Pine Cones and Acorns 18 Comments

Happy Saturday! I am excited to spend the day baking. Lucky for me that I did not make any resolutions to give up sugar because I fear that today there will be a fair amount consumed.

Then I will be hosting a small birthday party on Sunday for my sister and of course watching Downton Abbey. In between I will be helping my mom take down her Christmas decorations. We always wait until January 6th, the feast of the Epiphany and the last day of the 12 days of Christmas. When do you take down your decorations?

What about your outside lights? I have noticed that in the Midwest where I am visiting folks tend to leave theirs up longer.

That is fine by me because  love to go walking at night and see all of the beautiful lights.

Perhaps it is the cold that makes the people wait until Spring to take down their lights? Whatever the case their twinkle puts a smile on many a face.

What are your plans this weekend? I hope that whatever you do you have a safe and wonderful time!

Good morning dearest! WEll, we did not put up any lights and the small amount of decorations in the house are easy to take down when I want. But I am hoping to have a very small gathering in the next few days or week so I am keeping up my little trees. WE JUST HAD A DOWNTON ABBY PARTY LAST WEEKEND! It was so fun to do so!

Have a blast my dear! Anita

Oh my, that cake does look good. I always leave the out-door lights on until well into January. I love seeing them when I walk the dog in the evening, too. Downton Abbey…won't miss it. Hugs, Deb

A weekend baking? Oh I am so fortunate I am not your neighbor, I would be in serious trouble. Enjoy!

Tina, I would love for you to be my neighbor! Between your savory food and my sweet treats we would be about 30 lbs over weight!

      Have a great weekend, Elizabeth

I'll be doing a bit of baking too as we host a play-off football game party (my daughter cheers for the Seattle Seahawks.. so it's a big deal!) Can't wait for Downton Abby .. I'll be watching it with my daughter!

I always enjoy leaving the holiday decor up through at least New Years. When we take everything down is more a matter of convenience and work schedule. We will be finishing the clean up today!

    Enjoy all the baking!!

Well NFL football, baking and removing decorations is what we do.
Our Texans have floundered a bit recently but they play this afternoon and even if my voice is gone I'll cheer from the inside. Your weekend sounds WONDERFUL !!!

everything sadly coming down today & tomorrow. I take photos of everything each year and keep in a Christmas book – so it is easy to re-create the designs I like and write the history of the pieces on the photo backs so it will someday be a keepsake for my children.

No baking–still too many sweets hanging around here!!!

Today and tomorrow I will be sadly taking down all the decorations. I take photos and put in a Christmas book so I can re-create my favorite designs next year. I also mark the photo backs with any history of the old & new family pieces so someday my children will have a nice keepsake.

    Hello Elizabeth

I am looking forward to Downton Abby

Like you, we celebrate the Epiphany and light 12 candles to celebrate the 12 days of Christmas. We put names on the candles in honour of living family members and friends.

    Your cake looks delicious.

Good morning friends! I need prayers, lots of pray Good morning friends! I need prayers, lots of prayers. My nephew was hit by a car on Thursday while riding his bike. To respect my brothers wishes I can’t say more. I believe in the power of pray and I would appreciate it tremendously if you could pray for my nephews full recovery as well as for his parents who are by his side. Sadly because of Covid they cannot be with him together at the same time. Thank you friends I appreciate this more than I can say. This is how I feel tonight, as if I am seeing life This is how I feel tonight, as if I am seeing life through the blur of tears and sorrow. Sunday night my friend of 34 years lost her husband of 36 years, because of Covid he did not get to meet or hold his newborn grandson. Then just an hour ago we received a call that my husbands best friend died of a massive heart attack this morning. Sometimes life just knocks you to your knees and all you can do is pray for the loved ones you’ve lost, cherish their memories and let your time with them sustain you until you meet again. Then you ask God for the strength to get up and move forward. #life #loss #givemestrength #givemestrengthlord #pray
