Les Saveurs du Palais: A Movie Suggestion

January 12, 2013 By Elizabeth@ Pine Cones and Acorns 16 Comments

Good Morning and a happy Friday to you. In a few more hours we will be able to sit back, relax and enjoy the weekend. Hopefully…

What are your plans for the weekend? I know that many of you, like myself, enjoy watching movies on the weekend. If you would allow me I would like to make a recommendation.

The movie is called Les Saveurs du Palais in France and here in the States  it is called Haute Cuisine. If you are a Francophile,  a gourmand, or just like a good movie than I think you will enjoy it.

The film is based on the real life experience of DanieleDelpeuch, a provincial chef, farm and restaurant owner who is summoned to the Elysee Palace to be the personal chef of President Francoise Mitterrand.

I watched this recently on my plane to Paris and I loved every minute! In the movie Daniele is called Hortense and Francoise Mitterand is The President. After his reelection Mitterand requests a chef that can “cook like his grandmother.”

Hortense accepts the job and we see her trials and triumphs as she prepares sumptuous yet “simple country fare” for the President.

I personally think that the food is another character in the movie, it is unbelievable, from menu planning to the raw ingredients, and finally to the table, each meal is a work of art.

I do not want to give any more of the movie away but I will say it is a feast for the eyes.

If you have already seen this movie I would love to hear your thoughts. OR if you have another movie suggestion I am all ears.

I hope you have a great weekend. Enjoy!

If you would like to know more about the interesting life of  Daniele Delpeuch there is a great article in the NY Times.

    Hello Elizabeth:
This film really does sound most appealing and we are certain, from all that you say, that it is visually very tempting indeed. We shall definitely look out for it, possibly on DVD.

Also on a food theme, and a favourite of ours, is 'Babette's Feast'.

Good morning precious one! First of all, I want to thank you for your wonderful comment on my post. If I could just keep a daily diet of POETRY going into my mind, I could probably write better posts more often! It is encouraging to hear that this post was your favorite.

NOW FOR THIS MOVIE….I must see it. I collect French films and I adore the French. I am actually late in coming here because I was subbing in a French class yesterday! LOVE EVERY MOMENT OF IT!

Have a super day my dear, Anita
