Good morning! I am back and settled in at home after my Spring Break adventures. My husband and I traveled last week with our good friends and their two boys to Washington D.C and VA.
Our first stop was Washington D.C. and after dropping our bags at the Capitol Hilton we were off to explore.
I used to work in D. C so this is my old stomping grounds and I loved seeing the beautiful sights through new eyes.
Sadly we were not able to tour the White House but we did learn a lot just standing outside and talking to the Park Rangers. For instance did you know that it takes 570 gallons of paint to paint the White House?
That there are 132 rooms in the white house? And that the house is almost 50,000 square feet?
Or that George Washington never lived in the White House?
Or that the first child born at the White House was Thomas Jefferson’s grandson?
There is so much to learn about the White House and you can do that either by speaking with the National Park Rangers or viewing the little movie on the South Side of the House.
I was disappointed that we could not tour the White House but there is so much else to see that we just visited other places.
Have you been to Washington? Do you have a favorite places to visit? I would to hear about it in case I missed something.
Have a great day.

Such an interesting post Elizabeth! I have never been to Washington but it is high on my travel wish list. My favourite place in the world that I have visited?…..there are a few…..but Cape Town, South Africa and also Melbourne, Australia were fantastic.
Have a lovely day!

Love DC, my son was in college there so I looked for any chance I had to go visit him…..not saying he was as enthusiastic as I was:) Its such a beautiful and fascinating city….never gets old!! I hear the cherry blossoms are delayed by a few weeks this year!
My favorite places in DC are usually antique shops…lol. Shame the White House isn’t open for tours since they paid for themselves and made money. Nice hearing a few of the facts about it.
Enjoy your day Elizabeth!

Oh how I remember our visits to DC while living as college students in Boston. Every Christmas and New Years, there we were on the road to DC to have some of the best parties EVER, filled with such laughter and excitement. Then the tour of the capitol was the highlight, with our dear friends.
Welcome home, Elizabeth! Anita
I have not been to Washington. I'd love to go someday. Beautiful pics!
I was there iny teens and remember the cherry trees and going on lots of tours. A fascinating place to learn about history. Glad you had a nice visit Elizabeth!
