Around the House: Living Room

May 7, 2013 By Elizabeth@ Pine Cones and Acorns 13 Comments

Good morning! I hope your week is off to a great start. The sun is shining here and the temps are rising, sadly so is the humidity. Oh well, everything can’t be perfect all of the time.

I am curious, what do you collect? What does your house say about you? Does your house/home reflect your personality?

I think my home tells the story of a long, well traveled and collected life. It reflects the life of a person who loves art of all kinds, has a touch of whimsy and is a voracious reader and music lover.

I have had guests this past week and it’s funny because when people visit for the first time, it is almost as if you see your house and things again in a new light. Why do you collect certain things, where did they come from, what is the story behind them, all questions asked of objects.

Excuse the dust if you see some in these photos, our living room is the least used room in the house, not because we do not enjoy it but simply because we are in other rooms more, like our offices, family room and of course the kitchen.

Do you have rooms that you do not use or use less often? What is your favorite room in your house? Why? And your favorite collectible or collection?

I have to think about my favorite collectible, I do not really know if I have a favorite thing, no I take that back, my favorite things in the house are my books. Not for the value but for the memories.

I also have a few paintings that are favorites, the one below is one of them. You may not be able to tell as I zoomed in but those little sticks and blobs are people enjoying a day at the beach.

Do tell, do you ever look at your home with new eyes? Do you have favorite collectibles or art? I would love to hear all about it!

Enjoy your day! Enjoy your week!

Hello Renae! I have loved seeing your grandson, what a cutie! I did play for four years, started when I was 28, then moved.

      Thanks for the compliment.

      Have a great week, xxelizabeth

Elizabeth, I so enjoyed seeing so many of your cherished collections. I especially loved the violins. Yes, books are also my largest and probably my most favorite things. We enjoy collecting art as well. Many of our favorite drawings were created by our daughter. Have a great week! Bonnie

Love getting a peek into your home and you are right, it shows someone who has many interests from culture to music to reading to art and speaking of art, I LOVE both of your paintings!! It is all very lovely…..and I agree these collections are absolute reflections of ourselves.

    Hi Elizabeth,

Your violins are so much fun! I like the way you've displayed them. Traveling allows us to bring in lots of interesting collectibles. Art, personal photos, pottery.. I like it all. Your paintings are gorgeous and I can tell your home is warm and welcoming:):)

I love your beautiful home, dear Elizabeth…I think we collect many of the same things…
I adore your old books…the art…the instruments…music in general…those are all things which feed my soul.
That painting of the beach? It reminds me of Maurice Prendergast…are you familiar with his work? I think you would love it…
    Hugs to you,
