Signs of Fall

August 16, 2013 By Elizabeth@ Pine Cones and Acorns 9 Comments

Good morning! I do not know about you but I am starting to see signs of Fall. A few days ago at the farmers market I saw pumpkins, I was so very tempted to get one but without a doubt it would rot before the official start of Fall.

Yesterday, we had our windows open for the first time since April and it was heavenly. Ironically it was still 82 but after the scorching heat and humidity the last few months it was a treat.

The trees are starting to shed their bark, and a few are even begining to turn colors.

The figs will soon be ripe and ready for salads, jams and jellies.

I have my calender out and am making Fall travel plans and dare I say starting to try out a few recipes for the holidays?

Pumpkin Bars with Vanilla Beach Frosting

I have noticed that it is getting dark a little earlier and earlier each day.

This year though, I am not going to wish for Fall, I am going to savor each day and all that there is to offer because even on a scorching day there is something beautiful to enjoy.

Enjoy your day!

FALL? Not yet, NO! I have three more weeks until school starts, and I love that cool feeling in the morning as I drive out to school…but not just yet! And we too are finally going to get around 90 degrees here, since we've had a very mild and cool summer. I can't wait to see your fall recipes my friend! Much love, Anita

I too noticed a chill in the air yesterday. It was very gloomy but warm and muggy at the same time. There are signs of autumn, I agree. It always gets me a but excited!
    Have a wonderful day.

Pumpkins, really? OMG…it really is almost over. Scary, between school supplies, puffy jackets and even gasp the mention of Christmas…..I feel like summer has come and gone like one big blur. Not the most relaxing summer for me which I guess makes easing into fall a breeze 🙂 I do love fall, nothing like a perfect crisp fall day!

It's definitely summer here in Brittany! It is the feast of the Assumption and a public holiday here, and we always note it as the busiest day of the holidays, the beach is packed, thank goodness we can walk there easily and don't need to spend all day with the crowds.
I try hard not to think about Autumn till I'm home in September and Lottie is back to school.

Oh dear, Elizabeth! As much as I adore your photos and your posts, I am not quite ready for this one! I love summer and don't want it to end…I haven't enjoyed it enough yet. Check back with me in October!

Having said that, it feels like a fall day here in Connecticut today and it is really lovely. Enjoy your day! xoxo

What a wonderful post! Pumpkins already, wow. I have to honest, I get itchy this time of year for fall. It is my favorite and I love all the decorating and the cooking really starts and baking. I really love the smells of fall. I am getting excited just talking to you about the season.

Elizabeth, A lovely post! You had me at pumpkins. We, too, have been in the low 80s this week. We, in fact, had our curriculum meeting outside this afternoon. It was delightful! I am dreadfully envious of you beautiful figs. I am afraid the birds and squirrels devour mine before they ripen. I have basically given up. I make fig preserves, but have to buy them at the farmer's market. Enjoy your Thursday afternoon. Bonnie

Oh, I am looking forward to the Fall, as it's my favorite season of all. Those pumpkin bars look amazing. I always get the pumpkin loaf at Starbucks during the Fall. Your pictures are so pretty; I have a thing for "tree" pictures.

I hope you are enjoying the summer days.

    Love,
