Friday Favorites from Taste, From the House of Edward, Simple Details and More

September 28, 2013 By Elizabeth@ Pine Cones and Acorns 9 Comments

Image from TASTE

Good morning! Another Friday and the first official in Fall. To me Fall weekends are all about football, food and relaxing. This week like many before I find myself drawn to food and photography.

Taste the Williams Sonoma Blog has a recipe round-up for game day. Great ideas for dips, sides and mains. I think I would enjoy one of those little sliders and a brownie or two while my husband watches football this weekend and I lounge with a pile of magazines.

Image Traditional Home

Paris is always a good idea and spending time in THIS apartment featured in Traditional Home would make it even better!

I love botanical illustrations and have always been a fan of illustrator Mary Delany, imagine my surprise to learn that there is a huge data base of not only her illustrations but many, many more at the British Museum. Pam of Simple Details Blog used several in an interior project she recently completed and shares the tutorial on Simple Details blog to locate, print and frame them to use these in your own home. If you like botanical illustrations I have a collection of them on my Pinterest board. For more information on Mary Delany visit HERE.

Visiting Pamela at From the House of Edward is like visiting a wonderland, not only is her writing magical, melodious and magnificent her blog is like an enchanted forest filled with beautiful art, writing, books, people and things. Recently Pamela featured this portrait of her beloved dogs, Edward and Apple painted by artist Kevin Nichols. If you would like a portrait of your pet or yourself for that matter Kevin does commissions and you can contact him, HERE

If you like fashion and Fall than you will LOVE this beautiful shoot by Chris Craymer on The Terrier and Lobster Blog.

Image Christelle is Flabbergasting via Pinterest

I discovered two new blogs this week.  Photisserie combines a love of photography and pastries, the perfect combination if you ask me and Christelle is Flabbergasting a unending feast for the eyes. The blog is filled with tasty treats, beautifully styled food and photos.

Jeanne at Collage of Life shared this great article, Loosing is Good For You and Cupcakes and Cashmere shared The “Busy” Trap.

Have you seen the amazing series on PBS, Earthflight? It is a fascinating look at birds around the world using special “birds eye view” cameras and other techniques designed and invented by John Downer the filmmaker. It is must see television.

I just finished The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton, excellent as are all of her books.

I hope that you discovered something new here this week and if you have something to share please do I always enjoy learning about new things.

What are your plans for the weekend? Whatever they are I hope that you have a great one!

Elizabeth this is a great post! I love botanicals too and I bookmarked the tutorial, thanks for sharing it. I also love the William Sonoma recipes in fact I got a wonderful date and goat cheese appetizer from their blog a few years back. I'll have to stop by and check out Jeanne's post too. I haven't seen it yet. And yes I've read Kate Morton's Secret Keeper too, in fact I've enjoyed all her stuff, she's one of my go-to authors when I need a safe book choice 🙂

    Good morning Elizabeth!

You always find the best and most innovative blogs to visit and discover! I changed my font a couple of weeks ago because of a beautiful blog you highlighted here that inspired me. Then there's Pamela and Edward who I do know and enjoy so much.

Well my dear, this is a busy year for both of us! I am on a huge learning curve this year and though I love teaching the older grades, it's a LOT OF WORK! I haven't even been able to write the way I really want to. Besides, my husband is getting laid off, so we are in a bit of an anxious state of mind.

Enjoy your fall weather; we are still having 70+ degrees here but it's so gorgeous! LOVE! Anita

You always offer up a feast on Fridays. Have you read "The Paper Garden"? It is a wonderful biography on Mary Delany. She was seventy two when she first pick up her scissors and first began creating her beautiful botanicals. It is one of my favorite biographies. Maybe because I am such a wannabe artist, it gives me hope…I still have time. Have a wonderful weekend! Hugs, Bonnie

This is how I feel tonight, as if I am seeing life This is how I feel tonight, as if I am seeing life through the blur of tears and sorrow. Sunday night my friend of 34 years lost her husband of 36 years, because of Covid he did not get to meet or hold his newborn grandson. Then just an hour ago we received a call that my husbands best friend died of a massive heart attack this morning. Sometimes life just knocks you to your knees and all you can do is pray for the loved ones you’ve lost, cherish their memories and let your time with them sustain you until you meet again. Then you ask God for the strength to get up and move forward. #life #loss #givemestrength #givemestrengthlord #pray

How is it in your “neck of the woods?” We took a long road-trip a few weeks ago to the beautiful @colonialwmsburg .
