Downton Abbey Thoughts

January 14, 2014 By Elizabeth@ Pine Cones and Acorns 7 Comments

Good morning! Did you watch the Golden Globes or Downton Abbey? I watched a little of the Golden Globes and then switched to Downton Abbey. Honestly, I wish I would have stayed with the Globes.

Image from Jane Austens World

As I was watching Downton Abbey I just kept say, no, no, no, NO!!!!!!!!!!

Spoiler Alert, stop reading if you have not seen the episode.

I cannot believe that Tom hooked up with Edna. I know he is uncomfortable being the former chauffeur who is now upstairs. But considering he is now a part of the family and helping make decisions about the estate one would hope that he would start to make some changes in his attitude as well as think about his daughters’ future.

As for the rape of Anna…I do not like to think about it. I actually had to turn it off as soon as it started. I cannot stand to watch violence especially against women. I have read it was a common occurrence in grand houses but hasn’t poor Anna been through enough? And what about Bates, he will be heartbroken once he learns what has happened to his beloved Anna, not to mention that I think he might try to kill the Mr. Green.

Although there was so much more that happened, Mrs. Pattmore having a panic attack, Edith’s new boyfriend Mr. Gregson making a great impression after winning back the men’s money, and Lord Gillingham taking a shine to Mary, I simply cannot get past the other two story lines.

What did you think? Were you as shocked as I was? Tell me what you thought of the show I would love to know what you thought.

Have a great week!

I had the same reaction as you did to the rape of Anna. OMG, now I'm afraid she'll be pregnant as a result, not to mention the mental damage it's going to do to her. I'm mad at Tom as well. That Edna is so infuriating; trouble with a capital T! I'm pulling for Edith, and I really like her fiance, but I'm afraid she's traveling down a dangerous road with the plans being made between them. What next? So far we've had death on the Titanic, death in war, Cora's miscarriage, Bates accused of murder, death in childbirth, death by auto and now rape. It truly is a soap, isn't it? But I can't stay away!!

Ruben and I saw the ENTIRE fourth season, streaming it off the internet. We managed to see the entire season when we were still on Christmas vacation, and don't worry, two very unsavory characters will get the boot! I loved it all, and now can't wait to see the Christmas special – it's still not on-line yet! I know, it was VERY harsh to see Anna go through this, but let's just say we won't have to worry about that beast again.

AND THANK YOU FOR COMING TO VISIT, ELIZABETH! Off now to school….

It seems Mr. Fellowes thought he needed more high drama. He didn't. Both stories came out of the blue. I don't want the conflict that will come from either.

They definitely are delivering drama this season on Downton Abbey!

Hope you are having a lovely Monday, Elizabeth! xoxo

Elizabeth, I had already seen it when I was in London in the fall. Yes, I was shocked! Poor Anna! Can't wait to see what happens next week.

WHY?! Of all people in the show, why couldn't they leave Bates and Anna alone?! GAH!! I'm with you, that was NOT okay!!

Elizabeth, I was terrified for Anna. I happened upon an interview she did regarding this particular episode. I was somewhat prepared. I suppose there must be some drama to keep us tuned in. I hope you are having a wonderful beginning to your week. Bonnie
