This past week I finished a stack of books that have been waiting to be read for some time now. I would love to say that they were boring, or that I have been too busy but the fact is that I have been preoccupied.
Each night after dinner when I would normally read I find myself going down a rabbit hole of blogs. I visit my favorite blogs and then I am lured in by the colorful photos and enticing titles of other blogs shining like beacons on other peoples blog rolls. Do you have this problem? Please tell me that I am not the only one.
Now don’t get me wrong, I love blogs but I want to read a few new books. I would like to ask for a few suggestions for reading material, have you been reading anything new? An old favorite? A classic? A little fiction? A mystery? Do share please.
In addition, I would love to know what is your favorite book that you have ever read? I am curious if you can narrow it down to just one. I have not been able to and I have been thinking about this question lately.
Thank you for sharing. Have a great day!

At the moment I'm reading academic papers… this time of year marking them gets seriously underway.
Hi Elizabeth, yes I understand the distraction of the internet and I am trying to limit my time spent there because I also enter that rabbit hole and so much time goes by! I Recently read The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt and can truly say it is one of the best books I have read in recent years. I am now reading The Interestings by Meg Wolitzer and really enjoying it. Best book ever read? Hmmm…a tough question. I would narrow it down to several favorites: To the Lighthouse and Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf, Howards End by E.M. Forster, The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton, and Excellent Women by Barbara Pym. Happy reading!!!
Love your name 🙂
Hi Elizabeth, I had to laugh when I read your post about being distracted by blogs because I am supposed to be paying online for my son's upcoming tests and as usual I am distracted by visiting my favorite blogs! I have been known to leave the computer after a while and then an hour later remember that I never did what was my original intention because of my distractions! Haha. Well sometimes we all need to be taken away to a different place now and then 🙂
As far as reading goes, I am rereading Tuesdays With Morrie at the moment. It is an easy read that you could finish in a day but I am making a point to only read a bit each day so I can really ponder and absorb the messages that Morrie is presenting, through Mitch Albom's book. It is such a hectic time and so easy to be distracted and overwhelmed by the daily responsibilities so I am enjoying going through these lessons again. Not to mention it also gives me a little more patience to deal with this LONG winter we are having… I am across the lake from you in Michigan. ( We unfortunately are not that close to Lake Michigan but it is our favorite Great Lake to visit each summer if we can )
Well I could continue to list some other books but I guess I need to pay those testing fees before I forget again 😉
Have a wonderful day
Hi Elizabeth,
I have been reading tea books. I have read a lot of cookbooks and books about how to eat, but lately I have been enamored with tea and the lovely tea books by Victoria.

I too am among the ones too that wile away the hours reading blogs. I say I am not going to sign up for anymore, but then find a link to another one that looks so interesting. What did we do with our time before blogs and FB I wonder!
I agree that is so hard to narrow it down to just one book as the best I have ever read…but I really really loved The Help. It took me back to my childhood growing up in the South. I just finished The All-Girl Filling Station's Last Reunion by Fannie Flagg and it was very good. I enjoyed it so much that I am going to read all of her books. She as you most likely know, wrote Fried Green Tomatoes At The Whistle Stop Cafe. I love her humor. Another book I really liked was Whistlin' Dixie in a Nor'easter by Lisa Patton. She has 3 books out in this series and she is very funny.
As much as I am glued to my pc…I have to say having a book in my hand is so pleasing and I need to do that more often. I hope they never do away with books and newspaper in my time.
Thank you for this post so that we all can find great suggestions for books to read.
I haven't had time to read lately, but I love it and can't wait to get back into it 🙂

Just finished reading The Secret History by Donna Tartt which I literally devoured in four days. My plan was to next read Goldfinch but after reading all the negative reviews on Amazon declined to order on Kindle it's difficult to choose a fav book but I'd have to say To Kill a Mockingbird and The Great Gatsby. I'm trying to stay away from reading too many blogs; I'd rather be working my way through my stack of unread books before spring hits.
Good morning Elizabeth! I missed blogging yesterday and I am so behind. What am I reading? Anything I can get my hands on that is poetry and also some French stuff.
I am waiting however, for spring. No new news on that front! I hope you are enjoying all your reads; I wish I had more time for it! LOVE, Anita
Hi always looking for good suggestions myself read The Goldfinch (very good) and just ordered A week in winter (recommended to me). Happy reading, there is nothing as wonderful as getting totally lost in a really good book!
Hi Elizabeth – I'm so glad I came back here to see what people are recommending. I need some good books, too! Have a great day 🙂
Yes, I have to be very
strict with myself about
blog reading–kind of like
I have to be with sugar
consumption!
My book club just read
a classic – The Red Tent.
I'd never read it before, but
I loved it!!
Right now I'm reading When
We Were Grownups by Ann
Tyler. Not a current book, but
one I picked up at a library sale
and have never read. So far,
so good….
As to all time faves, one at the
very top of my list is Coming Home
by Rosamunde Pilcher. I have read
it several times and love it all over
again, each time : )
Happy Reading!

I am going to need to visit all the the above comments to add to my own list. Choosing a favorite book is like choosing a favorite child….I don't think I just made that up. I must have read it somewhere…it is true though. I have been so busy knitting for my grandson I haven't been reading as much as I would like. I did read "Orphan Master's Son". I wish I could I say I loved it…I liked it. And I reread The Good Earth. I am now reading Isabel Allende's "Ripper". It is entertaining in a suspenseful way. Bonnie
