Mid Week Musings

January 23, 2015 By Elizabeth@ Pine Cones and Acorns 6 Comments

Good morning! I am feeling a little discombobulated this week as I was out of town most of last week and over the weekend to celebrate the christening of my grandson, or to be more precise, my step-granson.

It is always nice to be with family and go away for a bit but there is no place like home. I know this might seem a little strange as I love adventures and travel but I find as I age that I prefer my time at home to traveling.

I have yet to pinpoint the reason. It could be age, it could be because the “golden age” of travel is past and now it seems as if the airlines are simply moving cattle, or it could be that home seems safe and the world seems like it is going to “hell in a hand basket.” I don’t know but whatever the case it is nice to be back at home in back into my routine.

Do you ever feel like that or are you one of those that prefers to be out and about all the time?

I am looking forward to the weekend, fingers crossed the weather will be nice. Although we have had a mild winter I am sick of it already. The temperature is up and down and up and down, one day you are out in shorts and a t-shirt and the next bundled up like you are going on an arctic expedition.

I am so looking forward to the weekend, a date with my husband, dinner with friends and a good book. What more could I ask for?

What are your plans for the weekend? Will you be heading out on an adventure, staying close to home, or are you as yet undecided?

I want to try a few new recipes as well simply because I love the smell of baking or a pot of simmering something in the house on a winter weekend, it seems more cosy.

Do you do a lot of baking, cooking on the weekends? Or do you prefer to cater in?

I hope that you have a wonderful day. Relax and get ready for the weekend.

    Oh dearest Elizabeth, HELLO!

I agree with you 100%. I do believe for me it is all the things you mention here. I am audacious, adventurous, and I love to travel. HOWEVER…..the danger out in the world today is not worth the risk to me. I was supposed to go to Paris this May with students, and luckily (for me), it got cancelled due to low enrollment. I was relieved. As much as I love this city, I just can't go right now. However, Ruben is taking me to Carmel this summer.

Like you, I find being at home with him is what I want the most. I really do think it is age. Wisdom starts to become clearer to the ear and heart, and there are so many fun things to do at home in the house or locally. This past long weekend, we went to one of the more posh malls, took our power walk, then went to lunch to one of our favorite haunts, (took our thermos full of tea), sat there and talked for hours, read poetry, discussed it, even wrote a little. Then together, we drove across town to explore some antique stores. We were so happy. Then to come home and read….oh dear, some kids would think we are just old people, but we are young. We are young inside with so much to discover, but thank goodness that we are also wise enough to spend our energies doing what matters to us. I know you feel the same way.

I wish you rest and fun with those whom you love. And….thank you dear heart for all the blogging love. I am never going to delete my blog, I am still visiting blogs and keeping a presence. I just had to make the hard decision to put my writing time and energies elsewhere. Let's see where that leads me….

But I am always around. LOve to you, Anita

I would like to travel more, though at this point there are places in the world I would completely avoid.

Sure would love a scone right now with my coffee! YES so agree with what you said, love discovering new places and beautiful hotels but seriously coming home is the best. I have also gotten a lot picker and harder to please as I get older and hold the creature comforts of home so close to my heart…..that I am always as happy as a kid in a candy shop when I come home! And this me who just about 10 years ago could never ever stay home…boy how things change!
Hope you have a great weekend.

Elizabeth….I'm with you darling! The anticipation of travel is always better than the actuality!!!!!!!!!! Sorry, but it's true. The crowds are now incredible. Ofter we rush around without actually feeling or seeing anything overseas.

So…I'm all about looking up, looking down and all around in my own city of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia…..where I can breathe, see and feel! It's like I've been wearing really dark glasses for years and years.

As the song says, "I can see clearly now….!".

    Always enjoy your musings!

    Ciao

I do love an adventure, but it
has to be a goodie to pull me
    away from home. I've always
    loved coming home, and being
home, and as you say, with the
world in such an uproar, home
feels more like a sanctuary than
    ever before.

I love to use my slow-cooker in
the winter; as you say, it lends a
    very real feeling of coziness!

    Enjoy your weekend, Elizabeth!

    xo Suzanne
