Friday Favorites from The Devine Life, Hello Lovely, The Culture Trip, Kristy Woodson Harvey, Heather Likes Food and More

April 9, 2016 By Elizabeth@ Pine Cones and Acorns 9 Comments

Good morning and a happy weekend to you! I am so ready for the weekend to rest and relax. Recently I started taking hot power yoga classes and I have been challenged both mentally and physically to the point that after 4 or 5 classes I need the weekend to recuperate. I thought I was in fairly good shape, I know now that I am not.

The weather here is going to take a dive this weekend, cold, high winds and rain so I am going to stay in and read.

Spring is trying to make its way across the country and many are planning their gardens. This post from Michael Devine of the Devine Life,  5 Easy to Grow Flowers  could be of interest especially to people like me who do not have green thumbs.

Speaking of Spring are you planning a trip to Paris this Spring? If so here are a few things Made Here, Buy Here:What You Can’t Leave Paris Without.

If you aren’t going to Paris but are looking for a few interesting blogs check out 7 Parisian Food Bloggers You Must follow from The Culture Trip.

If you are planning a trip to Paris soon, and would like to stay in an apartment instead of a hotel than  check out this little place that Michele from Hello Lovely celebrated her 25th Anniversary in.

I love banana cream pie and lately I have been craving one, so I think I might try this Black Bottom Banana Cream Pie from Heather Likes Food.

Bourbon Basted Burger from Simply Delicious Food

I have a Burger board on Pinterest and this Bourbon Basted Cheeseburger from Simply Delicious Blog is at the top of my list to make as soon as the weather turn nice.

This week the highly acclaimed and anticipated Lies and Other Acts of Love by Kristy Woodson Harvey was released. If you have not read it yet get over to Amazon or Barnes and Nobel or your local shop and get a copy. It is a fabulous book! I curled up with it one day last month and did not get up until I was finished. I cannot wait until her next book comes out!

Dear Carolina was praised as “Southern fiction at its best.”* Now author Kristy Woodson Harvey presents a new novel about what it really means to tell the truth . . .

After sixty years of marriage and five daughters, Lynn “Lovey” White knows that all of us, from time to time, need to use our little white lies.

Her granddaughter, Annabelle, on the other hand, is as truthful as they come. She always does the right thing—that is, until she dumps her hedge fund manager fiancé and marries a musician she has known for three days. After all, her grandparents, who fell in love at first sight, have shared a lifetime of happiness, even through her grandfather’s declining health.

But when Annabelle’s world starts to collapse around her, she discovers that nothing about her picture-perfect family is as it seems. And Lovey has to decide whether one more lie will make or break the ones she loves . . .

Don’t just take my word for it, here is what others are saying as well.

“LIES AND OTHER ACTS OF LOVE establishes Kristy Woodson Harvey as a major new voice in southern fiction. This book stirred mighty emotions in me, yet left me with a sense of peace. A truly delightful read.” –Elin Hilderbrand, New York Times bestselling author of The Rumor

“Kristy Woodson Harvey’s sophomore effort, LIES AND OTHER ACTS OF LOVE, proves that her debut, DEAR CAROLINA, was not a one-hit wonder. With tender and thoughtful writing, Kristy tells a story of a family where lies and love are intertwined–like two halves of a best friend forever necklace.” — Tamara Welch, Traveling With T

“Kristy Woodson Harvey is an upcoming author superstar. The writing in this book is PERFECTION… It will be one of the HUGE books of Spring 2016.” –Andrea Katz, Great Thoughts

“A richly detailed, intergenerational tale of love, loss and loyalty. Harvey pulls the reader into the hearts and souls of her characters.”—Heather Gudenkauf, New York Times bestselling author of The Weight of Silence

“LIES AND OTHER ACTS OF LOVE  is the perfect book club book about love, marriage, sisterhood, and the lies that can destroy or save them all.” -Jill Hendrix, Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance President and Fiction Addiction owner

“Harvey’s second novel is full of abandon, caution, love and hurt, buoyed by two spirited women who learn how to take control and when to give it up.” — The Salisbury Post

“Harvey crafted a story so perfectly detailed that we could imagine ourselves on a wrap around porch in the South with a tall glass of sweet tea.”—Liz Fenton and Lisa Steinke, authors of Your Perfect Life and The Status of All Things

“Winsome and wise, LIES AND OTHER ACTS OF LOVE shows us that true, strong marriages are forged as much out of pain as passion. Kristy Woodson Harvey treats both Annabelle, the young, naive heroine, and Lovey, the formidable matriarch, with skillful tenderness. Fans of Southern fiction, especially book clubs, will flock to this engaging, heartfelt story.” —Sonja Yoerg, author of House Broken and Middle of Somewhere

Have you seen the movie Everything is Copy:Nora Ephron-Scripted and Unscripted? If not, it is FABULOUS! I am a huge fan of Nora and her work and this is an interesting movie about her life, family and more and it is written, directed and narrated by her son Jacob Bernstein.

Did you discover any good books, movies, recipes and anything else this week? If so please share with us!

I hope you have a great weekend!

Remind people that France isn't just Paris. Paris is lovely and all, but there's so much more to see and do.

Hello my friend! I left early this morning for work so I missed your post. It's a lovely, sunny afternoon here but while driving home from work, I was driving in a snow shower!

Kristy has really made it big. So young and with so much ahead of her, she is so fortunate to have been published so early.

    ENJOY YOUR WEEKEND!

Then I pick my “favorite” mug or cup of the day and I sit with a book or a magazine and enjoy it. 10 minutes all to myself, we all have 5 or 10 minutes in a day to nurture ourselves.
