Do you wanna build a snowman? |
Good morning! Happy new year, and happy Winter! Winter has finally arrived in my neck of the woods and we are bracing for 5-14 inches of snow this weekend! I can’t wait, although it does mean that the whole place will shut down. The stores are already running out of food and the people drive crazy so that means I am going to be home bound for a few days. I am going to hunker down and relax, read, and maybe even do a little de-cluttering.
Thank goodness for Amazon, I can order of few of the 11 Books to Curl Up with This Winter from The Modern Mrs. Darcy and not even leave the house.
I joined my new favorite blog book club, started by The Every Day Parisian the first book is Bonjour Kale. Is there anything better than a book set in Paris?
As I will be home bound this weekend I found a few comfort foods to try out. After all, if one is going to be stuck inside not only their house but their neighborhood for at least 3 days they need a little comfort. For those of you who live in places that get a lot of snow you don’t know what I am talking about but where I live snow is pretty rare. The city does not have the equipment or the resources to plow and salt every street so they only do the main ones. That means my neighborhood does not get plowed, luckily I have 4-wheel drive and if I absolutely have to get out I think I will be able to.

To say that I LOVE hot chocolate would be an understatement. I literally could drink it everyday and sometimes I do but I especially love it in the winter. This scrumptious Thick Dark 85% Chocolate with Toasted Marshmallows from Wild Greens and Sardines is going to be perfect this weekend especially with a few of my homemade marshmallows.

To me comfort food means cheese, bread and pasta.

Although I make excellent macaroni and cheese I am always open to trying new recipes and this Baked Macaroni and Cheese from the Country Contessa looks like something that I am going to try. It is easy, cheesy and delicious.
Layered Chili and Jalapeño Corn Bread |
Is there anything better on a winter weekend than chili? I have a pot of my favorite Layered Chili on right now and will be eating a bowl or two this weekend.
I mentioned above that I am going to do a little decluttering, if you are up to it and I am not sure that I am you could joint the Decluttering Challenge from Nourishing Minimalism. The idea is that you get rid of the same amount of items as the year, that means getting rid of 2017 items. I don’t think I would do it all at once but I could definitely get it done over a few months. What about you? Do you think you could get rid of 2017 items this year?
What are your plans for the weekend? Are you off on an adventure? Will you be in reading an interesting book or watching a few movies? If so, please share your favorites.
Whatever you will be doing, stay safe and have a fabulous weekend!
P.S.: This is my favorite quote from this week, have you read it before?

After having cleaned out my parents' house following their deaths, I am very keen to clean out my own. Paring back to just the essentials.
Chili is a great idea for a snowy day. We don't get snow here either, but sometimes it's nice to eat cozy foods anyway.

I've never read this before until now. And no one can write such a profound piece as such until they reach a certain maturity. How true; we expect perfection, when all we have is the old and worn piece of sandpaper, the invisible hammer of prayer and the sometimes abrasive relationships that eventually polish our souls. Great choice my friend!

I have not read that quote before.
Here we've had snow consistently on the ground for about a month now.

I love that quote !!! And, Anita is exactly right, none of us know anything until we mature FINALLY & almost get to see the big picture. And, that Mac n Cheese just sends me. I love that stuff !!! HAPPY NEW YEAR, my darling friend.

Here in the deep south, we had snow yesterday for about 5 minutes!! and in those 5 min, 2 major interstates were closed! I'm telling you we cannot drive in ice or snow…but it's still cold here so I'm heading to the kitchen right now to make that macaroni and cheese. I've got a huge pot of chili in fridge that I made yesterday but I'm really needing that macaroni and cheese!!!
