Good morning! I hope that you are having a good week. Thank goodness tomorrow is Friday. Between the crazy, non-stop bad news all over the world and things going on at home I am feeling a little, no make that a lot stressed this week. So I am curious, how do you deal with stress? Perhaps you have a few tips that I do not use that you would like to share?
I am not sure about you but when I am stressed I can usually find things during the day to occupy my time and distract me, but once the lights are out and I am left along with my thoughts my mind is like a whirly gig and I cannot turn it off. I will lay there for hours mulling over scenarios and solutions until I am so exhausted I finally fall asleep. Are you the same or does sleep off you solace from the stress?
Here are a 10 things that I try to do to cope with stress:
1. Take long walks
2. Take soothing baths
3. Call and talk to a friend
4. Go to the library or the bookstore and relax
5. Go to yoga class
6. Bake
7.Write in my journal
8. Go to church
9. Pray
10. TRY to accept what I cannot change. This is the hardest for me.
To be perfectly honest, sometimes these things work and sometimes they don’t. Sometimes they work to help settle my mind for a little while and then sometimes not.
I have been a worrier and a fixer my whole life and as I age I have been trying to let things go and realize that not everything is mine to fix or to solve. Easier said than done but I am making progress.
What about you? Are you a worrier? Do you have coping mechanisms for stress that work for you?
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Have a great day.

To get through a stressful period, I focus on what is right and what my real priorities are. That would be my child. Doing right by my kid, spending time with my kid, enjoying my kid's company, those are the things that not only relax me but put everything into perspective.
Excellent post, Elizabeth. Now more than ever, and I don't know if it's due to my age now, but I am taking the news more to heart. It's stressful indeed, and the other day as I was listening to the news, I actually was on the verge of an anxiety attack. But you are right to suggest these offerings. Pray number one, helps me connect back to the core of who I am. Rejoicing in the beauty around me, and enjoying my husband and friends. That's all I can do.
The only stress I can control is my own. Knowing that takes some pressure off. You never cease to amaze me how we think so much alike. Tomorrow we will post about what we do as designers to unwind and refresh.
Music helps. The right kind of music. Not metal (which I hate anyway). Jazz or classical.
