Enamelware Finds

Good morning! I have just returned from 6 days in Montana. Between the “big sky” and the Fall colors, which were at their peak, it was breathtaking. I could not take my eyes off the road for a minute for fear that I was going to miss something, a great view, an antelope, bison or a rafter of turkeys.

As soon as I get organized I will post some photos and tell you more about my trip. For now I thought I would share one of my favorites finds from my trip. The plethora of enamelware, including cake pans, bowls, tumblers, teapots and more.

Enamelware is made with a base metal of steel, iron or aluminum that is covered with a glass-like material called porcelain enamel. It has been made for centuries starting in Germany and Sweden in the 18th century followed by France and then Great Britain. The U.S. did not start making enamelware until 1848. Interestingly enough it did not become an everyday household item until the late 1870’s, because other cookware like cast iron and copper was less expensive, when it became popular with ranchers, homesteaders and farmers.

Here are a few of my favorite candles, teapots and mugs.

I love the sleek, sophisticated and yet old fashioned look of enamelware. It reminds me of “simpler times”. I just ordered this set of Falcon bakeware so don’t be surprised it you start to see it on the blog.

Do you use or like enamelware? Do you prefer vintage pieces or do you like the new as well?

There are so many great brands of enamelware a couple of my favorites are Golden Rabbit  and Falcon but I also collect vintage enamelware mugs.

Have a great day!

I love enamelware. There's something so informally cozy about it. I'd love to see Montana some day. When I think of it, I think of wide open spaces. Can't wait to see your pics!
