Just Curious…When Do You Decorate for Christmas?

November 2, 2017 By Elizabeth@ Pine Cones and Acorns 8 Comments

Good morning. It seems as if this is becoming more and more commonplace(but no less significant), another terror attack, this time in New York. My heart is broken and my prayers are with those who lost their lives and are injured. As I type this I wonder will it ever stop?

How was your Halloween? Did you get a lot of little cuties at your house for tricks or treats? We had nary a one. So today I will be donating all of the candy I purchased, except for 3 or 4 of the little boxes of Milk Duds, to be sent to our Troops overseas.

I realize that yesterday was Halloween but while I was looking at both Pinterest and Instagram last night I was surprised to see that people are already posting CHRISTMAS decorations! I might add that I am not talking about their trees from last year they have already started decorating.

I get the pressure of social media, especially if that is how you make your living, but I find it a bit sad that you have to have the house and garden decked out for Christmas before Halloween is even over.

That said, I love Christmas, the sights, the scents, the food. I love my tree(s), the lights, the stockings, my ornaments, baking and everything that Christmas means but even I draw the line at starting that early.

Typically I start decorating Thanksgiving weekend because we have a lot going on in the month of December, so if the tree is not up before then, it doesn’t get done.

I drag all of my decorations out, sort them, decide which is staying and which is going. Then I decorate the trees, the front porch and I like to add pillows and candles to the guest rooms, soaps and lotions to the bathrooms, tea towels to the kitchen, small touches that add something special to each room.

Once the decorating is done the fun can begin, the baking, the Christmas movies, the concerts, the classics, and the parties.

So this week my question to you is, when do you decorate for Christmas? Do you have a real or a fake tree? Do you decorate your tree as a family or by yourself? Is today too early to begin decorating for Christmas?

I love hearing your thoughts and opinions and appreciate you sharing them.

Have a wonderful day!

My heart goes out to all of those in New York and those affected once more. So tragic. It's hard to talk about decorating for Christmas and the horrors of today's world in the same paragraph. But always remaining positive and thinking about Christmas, we never decorate until mid-December. Here in France It think we are lucky that the commercialism and hype is not so great, it is here, but not in the vast amount it is in other parts of the world and so no one yet is thinking of Christmas at all!

I'm trying to get myself pumped for Christmas but it's not working, I've got to dispose of the mums and pumpkins first. Have a great week, Elizabeth.

It is hard to find a live Christmas tree here before Saint Nicolas (Dec. 6). However, I saw some Christmas displays in stores already a week ago. On the one hand, it's nice if you don't want to be in the holiday rush. On the other hand, I feel like I'm in "It's the Easter Bunny, Charlie Brown," in which the running gag is that Christmas décor is out at Easter time. Oooh, that reminds me, it's almost time to watch "A Charlie Brown Christmas," which is one of my favorites!

I typically put up my little fake tree (allergies) after Thanksgiving. But like a commenter above, I don't know how much I can pump myself up. I find that I'm doing less and less these days.

One of the neighbourhoods here, the stretch of the main road passing through it, is already decorated with lights. Which I find really early.

    I'm working on Christmas—but I'm a blogger. 🙂 Before blogging–I started right after Thanksgiving!

    Happy day rock star!

We spend Thanksgiving at home, so I'm taking down all the orange and black from Halloween today and decorating for Thanksgiving. We decorate for Christmas the Friday after Thanksgiving while watching Hallmark Countdown to Christmas movies. (We like to stay out of the Black Friday crazy).
