Good morning! I hope that you are having a great week so far. We are getting our second snowfall today which has me thinking of how I like to spend snow days, cold days and long winter weekends.
As I have mentioned a million times I love being home, especially in the winter. It is the perfect time to relax, regroup, read books and magazines, catch up on movies or maybe nap. Katie at Preppy Empty Nester just posted a long list of movies and tv shows if you need a few suggestions.
In order to make my winter respite more cozy I have certain items that I like to have around me and things that I like to do.

I love a fire in the fireplace and often times it is the first thing we do it the morning. Our fireplace is gas and so we simply flip a switch and it creates instant ambiance. It makes the room cozy on a dark day and the dogs love to sleep the day away in their beds in front of it.
Cozy blankets and throws are a must and I have a basket next to each couch filled with them for both me and my guests. I prefer down blankets and throws as do my pups, but my mom likes cashmere.
Candles are another way to add a cozy touch to your house. On a typical day I light a candle as soon as I am home from yoga. I love the smell and I like the glow on a grey day. Once the sun goes down I typically light a bunch of candles on my coffee table to add a warm glow to the room and make it seem more cozy.
Baking is my number one way to make the house warm and cozy on cold winter days. I love to bake homemade bread or sweet treats like chocolate chip cookies. They are the two things that I love to eat hot from the oven. Is there anything better than a piece of bread fresh from the oven slathered with butter or a warm cookie with melty chocolate.
Warm beverages are the perfect way to stay cozy as well. Tea, hot chocolate, a cappuccino or even a hot Toddy or Irish coffee at night. I am sure that everyone has their own favorite drink, mine is hot chocolate, I love it in the morning, at lunch or before bed. Frankly I love it anytime.
How do you like to make your house cozy in the winter? What are things that you like to do on a weekend in or a snow day? Do you have a favorite drink or food? What do you like to do to relax, read, tv, movies, games?
As always, please share your winter recipes, and other relaxing tips.
Have a great day and be safe in the snow and icy weather.
P.S:
Just before the holidays I posted my favorite plaid/tartan finds. Many are now on sale just in case you are interested.

That snowy landscape is pretty, but all the same, I'm glad we don't have snow!
We have 50 degrees at 7 a.m., but the wind is vicious today. I like to curl up under a throw blanket, with a book in hand and candles lit nearby. And it is nice to make a dinner that goes in the oven, like a roast. No bread or cookies for me–January is for watching calories.
Hot chocolate is good on a cold day.
Your hot chocolate always looks so decadent… it always sets off a craving. We will return to school tomorrow after two snow days. I love to curl up by the fire with a book and a cup of coffee or tea. I also am knitting a coat for my sweet Bonnie Rose, giving me the chance to catch-up on some favorite podcasts. Stay safe and warm!
Elizabeth, I also love to be at home. I have to walk the beloved Bono, no matter the weather, so I cannot quite cocoon. I'm making soup today because it's therapeutic for my soul. No one to eat it but me, but one of my girlfriends has an idea for a book called "Dinner for 1, Leftovers for 7" love love love
Thanks for the shout-out Elizabeth! It just took me 20 minutes to drag my trash cans through the snow and ice to the curb. I can't believe it's only January! Hope you have a great weekend!
