Good morning! How was your weekend? Did you watch the Kentucky Derby? Or did you celebrate Cinco de Mayo? I watched the Derby while drinking a Blush Lily and eating nachos. I also made an over the top dessert, Krispy Kreme donut bread pudding with a Bourbon Pecan Sauce.
I will warn you up front this is a very sweet dessert, after all it is made with glazed donuts but it is a delicious treat especially with the Bourbon pecan sauce. Which I might add can be used on ice cream, French toast, pound cake and whatever else you think of. I did eat a spoon or two from the jar and it is delicious that way as well.
Krispy Kreme Bread Pudding
1 dozen stale Krispy Kreme donuts cut into 1″chunks
11/2 cups of milk
1/2 cup heavy cream
2 eggs slightly beaten
1 tsp. vanilla
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Place donut cubes in a large bowl. In a separate bowl combine the milk, cream, sugar, eggs, vanilla, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg. Mix well and pour over the donuts. Let the mixture sit for at least 15 minutes. Pour into a greased or buttered 8 x8″ pan. Bake for 50-60 minutes at 350. Make sure the center is set. Serve with the Bourbon Pecan Sauce.
Bourbon Pecan Sauce
1/3 cup butter
2/3 firmly packed light or dark brown sugar
1/3 cup of heavy cream
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 Tablespoons Bourbon
1/2 cup chopped pecans
Cook butter, brown sugar, heavy cream and cinnamon over medium heat until the mixture comes to a full boil. Stir occasionally so the mixture does not burn. Remove from heat and stir in the pecans, vanilla and the bourbon.
Bread pudding is the easiest dessert in the world and you can make it with anything, I have used bread, rolls, croissants, banana bread, brownies, cookies and anything else I have laying around. You can use whatever “custard” recipe that you have, I know that there are some that use just milk, add more eggs, use all cream or even use condensed milk. Use whatever recipe is your favorite. You can also add pecans, raisins or other dried fruit to the bread pudding you bake it.
Have a great day!
I would love to connect with you! You can find Pine Cones and Acorns on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and Twitter.
NOTE: I made a small ramekin for the photo because I was taking the bread pudding to a friend and I did not want to give it to here with a big scoop taken out. This recipe can easily be made is small 1 person servings, I would recommend baking them in a water bath though and obviously for a shorted time.

Who ever has stale Krispy Kreme donuts?
The photo of this dessert has my mouth watering. That pecan sauce would be my downfall. No need for donuts.
Now if you'd only had a white castle with milk at 2am…you'd be a true Kentucky gal!
That looks delicious!
