Good morning! How is your week going? Are you having a good one? I’ve been baking sugar cookies among other things to give to my Valentine’s. As I said yesterday, I think the day is about letting people know you love them and I like to show my family and friends how much I love them by sending them a box of sweet treats.
These are my all time favorite sugar cookies, the recipe is so easy and the cookie always turn out beautifully.
Aunt Mary’s Sugar Cookies
Recipe from Betty Crocker
1 cup butter, softened
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
granulated sugar
Using a mixer with paddle attachment, mix together sugar and butter. Add egg, vanilla, and almond extract; mix well. Blend in flour, baking powder and cream of tartar. Cover and chill for at least 2 to 3 hours. Heat oven to 375 F. Divide dough in half. Roll each half 3/16 inch thick on lightly floured cloth-covered board. Cut into desired shapes; sprinkle with granulated sugar. Place on parchment lined cookie sheet. Bake for 7 to 8 minutes or until light brown on edges.
You can leave the cookies plain or decorate them with sprinkles or frosting.
I made a soft frosting that will set on top by mixing 1 cup powdered sugar(sifted), 1 tablespoon corn syrup and 1-3 tablespoons milk. One the mixture is smooth, divide the mixture into a few bowls, add food coloring to make the colors that you like, frost the cookies and enjoy.
What are you baking for Valentine’s Day? Will you be celebrating with sweet treats? Do you have a favorite recipe to share?
Have a great day!

I doubt there's anyone in the whole world who doesn't enjoy a good sugar cookie. I've been the grateful recipient of your baking and felt honored and I thank you for that.
