Be a Superhero: Wear A Mask!

July 17, 2020 By Elizabeth@ Pine Cones and Acorns 18 Comments

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! It is time for us to take things into our own hands and be our own HERO’s.

PEOPLE, we have been home for months and months, and months. To date 130,000 people have died and many have died ALONE, with no one there to hold their hand as they leave this world and go to the next. Many who have survived may have life long complications. This week it was announced that coronavirus deaths are up 46% across the US.

We have missed weddings and funerals, women who are giving birth are only allowed to have one person with them, people are unable to have surgery or receive cancer treatment. Children and women are being beaten in their homes by abusive partners, the opioid crisis is worse than ever, unemployment is at a record high, children are STARVING! Yes, starving in the good old USA as millions of tons of food is being wasted. Kids are not getting an education, we might as well write this year off for so many children. Hundreds of thousands of stores, restaurants and companies are closing down never to reopen, not just your favorite local restaurant but stores like Brooks Brothers, Pier 1, Wisteria and more taking with them your favorite finds and jobs too.

The world is going to hell in a hand-basket and if WE, do not do something, and I do not mean blaming the government, we are never going to recover.

Life is NEVER, EVER going back to normal, whatever that was. We are long passed that point.

We live in the greatest country in the world, or what used to be, and many are standing around twiddling their thumbs. Our politicians, on both sides of the aisle have abandoned us, say what you want but that’s what it feels like.

The fact is that WE had no idea, and when I say WE, I mean the entire world, had no idea what Covid-19 was or was capable of. We did not know how it spread, how long you were capable of spreading it, we did not know how to cure or treat it. In the beginning the information shared by China was lacking, and the information disseminated by WHO was the same, every country in the world was left floundering to figure things out for themselves.

Many months later we are still in the same situation, every day we learn something new. Just a few days ago 200 doctors from 32 countries wrote an open letter to the WHO asking them to revise their recommendations because new evidence suggests that Covid-19 is airborne, meaning that the smaller particles stay in the air, and that you can be infected by them and not just by someone who is infected coughing and sneezing near you.

There are 50 states and 5 territories in the USA and they are all exercising their right to do whatever the heck they want and what they claim is best for their state. In the meantime some people are wearing masks, some people are not, some people are staying put, some are not, some are staying six feet from one another and some are not. Consequently, Texas, Florida, and Arizona are seeing case numbers rise daily, hospitals are at capacity and yet people are bitching and whining they can’t go out for a drink at their local cafe or sit in a restaurant or go to a movie without a mask. Are you kidding me?

What is the value of a human life? What is the value of your life? A day at Disney? A trip to your favorite coffee house? Is your life is worth giving up for a drink at a local bar?

Please, please, please get your heads out of the sand, stop blaming people and stop looking for answers from Washington, D.C you won’t find them. Use the brains God gave you, trust your instinct.

WEAR A MASK, WASH YOUR HAND FREQUENTLY, shelter in place as much as possible, and do YOUR PART not only to save yourself or your family but to be a SUPERHERO and help to SAVE the WORLD!

Dear Elizabeth ~ Wow – your post echoed ALL that my friends, family and colleagues are feeling here in South Africa. As much as we are miserable to be in this pandemic it is a small comfort to know that we are not alone in this ~ there are so many people world-wide who are feeling sad, overwhelmed, frustrated … and abandoned by their leaders. I keep telling myself that this is a marathon and we will get to the end of it slowly but surely one step at a time. Thank you for your wonderful posts that uplift me each time I receive them in my inbox. Your recipes are amazing and they are piling up for me to try them out. One thing is for sure ~ I am not going to lose weight in the Covid marathon but the small pleasures are what keeps us strong. Take care and thanks again.

Thank you for your kind comment, I am thrilled that you enjoy my posts. I hope that you try the recipes, believe me I am trying not too post too many of the desserts I have made because I do not want people to know how much I have baked. When other people were hoarding toilette paper I was hoarding flour.

I hope that you, your family and friends stay safe and well.

Well said! I blame both Covid and our leadership, or rather the lack thereof. If everyone was united and not going willy-nilly in all directions we would perhaps be on the same page. I keep wanting to say, it is the science, stupid, to rephrase an old edict. How can people not listen to the science??? Trump brought his rally to Tulsa and our cases went way up. STAY HOME!

Dear one, you certainly cut to the chase here and I was blown away! So much so, I just had to print out all you said for future reading as you really gave a clear picture of what has happened, is continuing, and how the future looks right now. . . and it's not pretty in any way.

Elizabeth – I linked this post in mine today in hopes people will read it and that they too will understand more about what we are all faced with regarding COVID-19. Then I told them to go back and read all your beautiful posts!!!

Hugs from my home where you can always find me these days!

Mary, you are so kind to share this post. I am trying my best to stay positive and healthy and it is a challenge when you leave the house. So many people are not wearing masks and it is so frustrating.

I hope that you stay home, stay safe, and be well. Thinking of you and your husband!

Every where I go I ask the person waiting on me how they're doing. And the next question is how they're being treated. Every single time some poor employee tells a story about an outraged customer who vented their anger about wearing a mask.
Honestly I wonder, when did we become so entitled and so selfish as a country?
    thanks Elizabeth for writing this.

I just don't understand people anymore. Have they lost all their common sense, their analytical abilities? Have we as a Nation become so pampered and entitled that we cannot handle adversity? And when did love of your neighbor and community become passe? I think we as parents are partially to blame for raising such me-me-me personalities. The schools don't seem to teach self-reliance and the satisfaction of reaching long term goals. I know I sound like the grumpy old Granny that I am, but by the way, does it bother anyone else how easily young people are willing to write-off the elderly as expendable collateral damage of the virus?

Sadly it seems that common sense has been abandoned in favor of conspiracy theories. :/ Boggles my mind how gullible some people are and how they will rant about the simple wearing of a mask but can't concern themselves with the bigger issues we are facing. If a store or a state or a town mandates masks and someone can't abide, then they need to just stay home rather than cause a ruckus.

The virus will be over on Nov. 5. By the way, masks don't do anything. Read the science.
