Happiness Report No. 9

Happiness Quote

Good Monday morning friends! How was your weekend? Mine was fabulous. I made mention last week that we are staying put in this house for the foreseeable future, and while it makes me sad that I will not be closer to my brother, I am grateful to have a home and a house that I love.

That said, we are in the process of having a fence installed, and are finishing the deck project that my husband wanted for the lasted few years. When I say “we” I mean that the contractors are installing the fence and finishing the deck, both of which have been delayed because of Covid-19. All in preparation of our new family member(more on that later). In case you are unaware because of Covid-19 there is a shortage of lumber, fencing, fire pits, and so many more construction supplies because people are building and doing DIY projects including decks, tree houses and more.

book, fall, candle, flatlay

This weekend I spent time cleaning closets, pulling out fall/winter bedding, airing out my tartan blankets and enjoying the cooling temperatures. In a few weeks I will be sitting in front of my first fire of the season.

I have been redecorating the house; changing rooms around, having pieces reupholstered, new pillows made because unfortunately I cannot sew, adding new lamps, and subtracting a few things as well.

And I’ve been attending auctions online which is always fun even if I am not looking for anything. I love learning about things and the history of items. There are so many beautiful pieces of art, and furniture available at auction, if you are looking for something or are just interested in looking check out Invaluable which features auctions from all over the world. If you are interested in finding great deals at online auctions check out this post by Elizabeth Cook on Katie Consider’s blog, there are so many great tips.

Banana Bread

This weekend I baked a few loaves of banana bread. If you have never made Cooks Illustrated “Ultimate Banana Bread” I cannot recommend it highly enough, it really is the best banana bread I have ever made.

I have a very busy week ahead and I am excited at the possibilities and adventured ahead. I hope that you have a wonderful week and I thank you for visiting today.

Have a great day!

I found your blog a couple of weeks or maybe even months ago… time seems to be
different now. I've been reading Brenda's blog "Cozy Little House" and I think I clicked on one of your comments and it brought me here. I'm really enjoying reading your posts because it seems like a chat I'd have with a friend. Just wanted to say hi and let you know how much hearing kind voices is during these unusual times.

Banana bread recipe coming off the printer right now! Yum! I really appreciate the auction information. I'm so intimidated by them, I've never tried … but there's so much great stuff out there. xo

Busy hands are the best Elizabeth. Sounds like you have had a burst of early autumn energy. So much fun to think of “cozying” up for winter. You do it beautifully. Banana bread, yum!! Enjoy the creative energy Elizabeth!! xx

Fences make good neighbors and keep certain creatures in or out, lol!!!!
Will be anxious to hear your news later.

Wish I felt as comfortable about staying in our house. The people who bought next door in Aug. have done nothing other than put it back on the market in hopes of flipping and making a ridiculous profit! Now, as it hasn't sold (it needs a lot of reno)they are again talking about razing and rebuilding – and living in it themselves! They have a new story each week – and I don't trust them or want them as neighbors. Because our lots are small it would be impossible to put a fence all around us, sigh!!!!
We may consider selling up next year depending on what happens.

A perfect day here – 76 high, full sun, blue sky – and I'm off at last to the dentist for a long postponed cleaning due to COVID!

Enjoy your week Elizabeth – you sound very busy.
