Mini Orange Pumpkin

Good morning friends! How are you? I hope that life is not getting you down, I realize that we have been “sheltering” at home for over 240 days and that everything seems like it is canceled. I have bad days myself, especially when I think about my family being so far away, but I remind myself each evening as I lay in bed, we are all still healthy and all doing well. If you are frustrated, sad, and especially depressed please reach out to family, friends or me. I am here for you, do not suffer alone.

I hope that you enjoy my finds for the week.

The Invisibles

Inheriting a haunted cottage in Italy means facing each other after years… but also finding adventure on the beautiful Ligurian coast.

Saffron never met a romantic mess she couldn’t love. That’s why she pushed away her older sister, who wants to control Saffron’s life. But when the sisters inherit their father’s cottage, she agrees to go with Elinor to take possession.

Elinor Greene thinks of herself as Saffron’s protector, holding a wing over her wayward little sis, who sees “Invisibles” and needs a big dose of reality. Elinor’s just the person to do it, and this trip will give her a last chance.

At their father’s funeral, his spirit follows them to the grave of his favorite 19th century poet, Percy Bysshe Shelley, where Saffron gets the message that the phantom poet awaits them at the cottage with a message. Elinor wants to sell quick and go home rich, but Saffron falls in love with Italy, the spirit, and a handsome Englishman. Months of big repairs bring  the sisters almost into harmony, but buried family secrets and one shocking night put their relationship to the ultimate test.

Book

How Lulu Lost Her Mind

Lou Ann Hunter’s mother has always had a passionate nature, which explains why she’s been married five times and spooned enough male patients to be ousted from three elderly care facilities. She also has Alzheimer’s, which is why she wants to spend the rest of her life surrounded by childhood memories at Sutton Hall, her family’s decrepit plantation home in Louisiana.

Lou Ann, a.k.a. Lulu the Love Guru, has built an empire preaching sex, love, and relationship advice to the women of America—mostly by defying the example her mother has set for her. But with her mom suddenly in need of a fulltime caretaker, Lou Ann reluctantly agrees to step out of the spotlight and indulge her mother’s wishes.

Upon her arrival at Sutton Hall, Lou Ann discovers that very little functions as it should—least of all her mother’s mind. And as she adjusts to this new and inevitably temporary dynamic with the help of a local handyman and a live-in nurse, she is forced to confront the reality that neither her nor her mother’s future is going according to plan.

Book

The Roots of the Olive Tree

Set in a house on an olive grove in northern California, The Roots of the Olive Treeis a beautiful, touching story that brings to life five generations of women—including an unforgettable 112-year-old matriarch determined to break all Guinness longevity records—the secrets and lies that divide them and the love that ultimately ties them together.

Travels with My Spatula

If you’ve ever found yourself dreaming about that time you spent sipping Margaritas in Mexico, or when you had to have just one more croquette from the mouth-watering displays of tapas in Spain, you’re not alone. Tastes, aromas, and the whole foodie experience of a country can stay with you for years, and make you want to pack your bags and relive that moreish moment in time. Food and travel writer Tori Haschka felt exactly the same every time she traveled, finding herself collecting Post-It notes of memorable dishes she’d eaten and then—when she got home—she’d capture her experiences through recreating recipes.
Split into chapters covering brunch, sweet treats and summer and winter recipes, you can try her slow-cooked ribs from Brooklyn, the perfect pasta dish from Rome, or luscious lentil koshary from Cairo; each recipe is a delicious memory waiting to be brought back to life in her home and yours. Who knows, it may even inspire you to book a flight and take a foodie journey of your own!

That panini sandwich looks delicious. And I'm planning stew here soon. Already have everything to make it. Books have always been a huge comfort to me. I don't think this isolation has hurt me because it was the way I primarily lived anyway. But I do know social people are probably going crazy with the limitations.
