Are you looking for an old fashioned chocolate cake recipe that is delicious, chocolaty and easy? Then look no further than the back of your Hershey’s Unsweetened coco can. My family has been making this “perfectly chocolate cake” recipe since I was a little girl and we love it, paired with the frosting also listed on the can it is a perfect combination.
Last week was my birthday and instead of making a cake for myself I made cupcakes to share, and they were delicious if I may say so myself, in fact my French neighbor kids who were the recipients of most of the cupcakes, told their mom I must be a famous chef for coming up with this recipe. If you have never made the “perfectly chocolate cake” or frosting make it as an alternative to pumpkin pie and I promise you there will not be a crumb left.
Ingredients
2 cups sugar
1-3/4 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup Hershey’s Cocoa
1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1-1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
1 cup milk
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup boiling water
Directions
Heat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour two 9-inch round baking pans.
Stir together sugar, flour, HERSHEY’S Cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt in large bowl. Add eggs, milk, oil and vanilla; beat on medium speed of mixer 2 minutes. Stir in boiling water (batter will be thin). Pour batter into prepared pans. Bake 30 to 35 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes; remove from pans to wire racks. Cool completely.
Hershey’s Perfectly Chocolate Frosting
This is my “go to” frosting, and I frost everything with it from cupcakes, homemade or from a box, cakes, brownies, cookies, or sometimes just a big dollop on a spoon for me to eat. I promise you, you cannot go wrong with this frosting.
Ingredients:
1 stick butter melted
2/3 cup of Hershey’s Cocoa
1/3 cup of milk
3 cups of powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
Melt butter in large bowl, whisk or use electric hand held mixer to blend in Hershey’s cocoa Add one cup of powdered sugar, and a little milk, alternating between the two until both are used up and the frosting is creamy. Add vanilla and blend. Then use to frost any treat you feel like.
Have a great day!
If you like these cupcakes you might want to try these cupcakes too!

Happy Birthday!
I hope you have a safe, healthy and fantastical year!
Thank you for the recipe. I forgot until reading you post how delicious frosting is that's made with cocoa.
Thank you so much. The frosting is easy and so good, I could eat the entire bowl without the cupcakes.
