Do you remember when you would sit for hours writing your Christmas list to Santa? Even though you are grown now the nostalgia of Christmas lives on in your memories of those times and it is fun to be a “kid again” at this time of the year. I have traded my toy list for things to make my home cosy.

cup of hot chocolate with acorn cake-lets Pinecones and Acorns
Good morning friends. It’s a beautiful Saturday morning and I am savoring a few minutes alone before the world wakes up. I love this time of the morning, often times I will sit on my front porch and watch the sun come up illuminating the pine trees across the road. It is a magical sight and so beautiful it doesn’t seem real. It is going to be a quiet weekend at home as Patches is recuperating and I am going to bake an apple cake. I’ve had enough excitement to last me a few weeks.
Have You Purchased Any Holiday Decor or Gifts Yet?
I am curious, have you been shopping for the holidays yet? I mentioned yesterday in my Friday Favorites post that I purchased a few things for the house and I have a few gifts ordered but I haven’t done much else. I have been bombarded lately with emails from stores offering me advice on how to shop to beat the supply chain issues as I am sure that many of you have as well. Oddly enough the few things I have wanted to buy are already sold out.
I think there are going to be many disappointed people this year and I cannot say that if you shop early it will help you get the “most coveted toy of the year” if it is still on a ship bobbing off the coast but I will tell you that shopping early is definitely less stressful.

Rustic Reindeer
Frankly I am not too worried, we do not have little kids to buy gifts for so we are not going to be in any competition for toys, and I guess if there is something on our list that we were not able to purchase than we will just “pivot” and find something else. Christmas is already a stressful time for a lot of people, they do not need to add to it with the shipping crisis.
Christmas to me is all about time with family and friends, oh and food, and baking, gifts are so far down the list in order of importance.
Memories of Christmas Past
That said I do like to look at Christmas decorations, it takes me back to the JCPenny and Sears Wish Books of my childhood. Anyone remember those catalogs or am I the only one that old? I can remember anxiously awaiting the arrival of these two coveted catalogs and then spending hours, no days during the season with a not pad and a pencil making a lit of everything I wished Santa would bring me. By the time Christmas came the covers were hanging off and the vast majority of the pages were dog eared. The funny thing is that I remember not just looking at princess dresses and crowns, or barbie but also the beautiful bedding and canopy beds that I wanted for my room or the dishes that I would have when I grew up. My love of a comfy home started there and continues today as I peruse and pin to my Pinterest boards.
Pottery Barn Decor Finds for Christmas
Pottery Barn and Williams Sonoma are two of my favorite places to look for decorations and gifts. Today I thought I would share a few things from Pottery Barn, just in case you are looking for something or just like to “window shop.”
First up dinnerware, isn’t this dinnerware cute! I think it is very versatile and looks like a sweater to me. If you are looking for something to add to your Winter and holiday decor this might be it. I

Nostalgic Christmas Pottery Barn
I LOVE this set of dishes and I love the name too, it’s called Nostalgic Christmas, everything about it reminds me of Clement C. Moore and The Night Before Christmas.
If you want something a little more whimsical than Forest Gnome Stoneware Dinnerware Collection is a great selection.
How about a set of tea towels?

Fetled gnome coasters pinecones and acorns
They also have gnome napkins or perhaps some gnome coasters?
The “cheeky reminder” mugs are perfect for serving hot chocolate to the kids all season long.
Plaid stockings are classic and look beautiful in any style house. They also have Nordic style stockings, stockings with fur and many more.
The glow of candles added to your decor will help to keep you cosy on the dark nights, I like this eclectic mix of candle holders.

Mad for Plaid throw Pinecones and acorns
Throws make a wonderful gift for you and your family.
I could spend hours perusing the Pottery Barn website or perhaps I will just take a meander in the store and really soak up the holiday spirit.
I hope that you have a fabulous day my friends, enjoy the beautiful weather, time with friends and what seems like the gradual reopening of the world.

When my grandmother finished with the Sears catalog, I was allowed to make my own paper dolls using the models and clothes, plus I cut out furniture and housewares to style their houses.. Such wonderful memories. Thanks for reminding me of this. I so look forward to each of your blog posts.
IT is fun to go down memory lane to where life seemed “simpler” although maybe that wasn’t the reality. I love the idea of making paper dolls, another thing of days gone by. Thank you for your comment and for letting me know how much you like the posts. I really appreciate it.
Oh my gosh I totally would do the same thing with the sears and JC Penny catalogs! I could hardly wait until we got them. The anticipation of looking and dreaming about fun thing in catalog was almost as much fun as receiving the item! Great memories! I am in love with the forest gnome dishes they are the cutest things ever!
Great post! Pinning!
I loved looking through the Sears, JC Penny, and Best Products catalogs each Christmas!
I was in a Pottery Barn store on Thursday and they had a display of the red and white tableware; it is very pretty and could be quite versatile, especially the platters. They also had a lot of the gnome pattern stuff but that is a bit too cutesy for me.
Admittedly Christmas is a difficult time of year for me. I’m glad when it’s done.
William I am so sorry to hear that. I hope that this year is better for you.
I’m with you on the gifts. We have no young children to buy fir either
I’m just so happy to be with family and friends. That’s the mist important thing but little ones won’t get that. Who can blame them?
I remember those catalogs! Now my son is into the Target and Amazon catalogs that get sent out. He has already marked just about everything in both 🙂
Oh, reading this post was like going down memory lane! How I loved when those catalogs arrived in the mail! Along with looking at the latest Barbies and baby dolls, I also would look at the home decor and plan my future home. I love the festive finds from Pottery Barn for the upcoming season! Have a wonderful week ahead!
You can find those old catalogs on ebay! I’ve gotten a few and it’s fun to go dowm memory lane and remember the ballet tutu I was desperate to have!
Amy, that is a great idea!
Yes! I remember those Sears and JC Penney catalogs – they were HUGE! We used to make our Christmas lists from them. At one point I remember wanting a purple bedspread… Ah memories… I love all your finds. You really can’t beat Pottery Barn!
Cheers!
Shelley
Shelly, LOL I remember those colorful bedspreads! Have a wonderful day!
