Hot Chocolate, the perfect drink on a snowy day(Mug Opalhouse)
Good morning friends, happy Monday. How was your weekend? I woke up Saturday morning to snow! Friday night it finally started to snow but after all of the back and forth with the weather forecasts I did not have high hopes for more than a dusting.

We got about 4 inches of the soft fluffy kind, perfect for sledding but not for making snowmen. Along with the snow came bitter cold weather, it was about 25 degrees, so while I was out making snow angels and taking photos, my fingers and toes felt like they were getting frost bite.

first snow if the season
Is it just me or is there anyone else that likes to be the first person or animal to walk in the snow? It is one of my favorite things about winter. If you like it too I think you will love this video of artist Simon Beck.
Unfortunately, the snow started to melt on Sunday when the temperature rose to 48 and will be just a distant memory by the end of the day. It was beautiful and fun while it lasted and hopefully with a few more weeks left of winter we will see a little more.

Let is snow, let it snow
My husband was sick all weekend, with a sore throat and cold so he missed all of the fun in the snow. In between taking care of him I was in the kitchen baking. I made a scrumptious cranberry coffeecake that would be perfect for breakfast, brunch or for dessert. Then I made a few treats that I am experimenting with for Valentine’s Day, I will share all of the recipes soon.

Chocolate Valentines Day Treats
If you are looking for a few sweet treats to make for Valentines day you might want like chocolate cupcakes with buttercream icing..

Every Day is the Best Day
I am curious, did you make any New Years resolutions? If so how are you doing with them? If you have already let a few fall by the way side remember that every day is another chance to start over so don’t get discouraged, you can start back again tomorrow or even the next day.
I do not make resolutions but since one of the things a lot of people make them about is exercise I thought I would share where I am at with working out and making it part of my every day routine. Before we moved I did an hour, 5 days a week of hot yoga, for 61/2 years. Yoga and walking were my primary sources of exercise and I was absolutely religious about both. Since the move, 7 months ago, I’ve only been on my mat once. I miss my old studio and have yet to find one here that I like and to be honest I think I was burned out. I still walk daily, and get between 10-15, 000 steps, but I’ve really missed yoga. So today I will be back on my mat with my old studio in a virtual class, thank goodness for technology. By the way if you have a Peleton, please share your favorite instructors and classes, we got one for Christmas and I would love to know who you enjoy.

Dash Waffle Maker
This is totally random but do you like waffles? I do, when I was growing up we had pancakes or waffles every weekend. Although I like pancakes, waffles are my favorite. That said, when I make them now I only want a “little waffle” basically an appetizer size waffle. Two years ago I purchased this small red Dash waffle maker from Target, it was roughly $10.00 and this week I discovered the heart shaped waffle maker which is perfect for Valentines day and every day. Brown Sugar Cinnamon waffles would be the perfect recipe to try in your new maker.

The Age of Innocence Edith Wharton
Are you a fan of Edith Wharton? If so then you probably know that today is her birthday, she was born in 1862. But did you know that:
- She was the first woman to win the Pulitzer Prize for literature, for The Age of Innocence. I do not think I did know that to be honest.
- She wrote her first novel when she was 40.
- She published more than 50 books, including fiction, short stories, travel books, historical novels, etc.
- She was a Francophile and before WWI broke out she was a permanent resident of Paris. She was awarded Legion of Honor in 1917.
- Here are a few other interesting things you might not have know about her.
That is all of my news and random musings from the weekend. Tell me what did you do this weekend? Did you get any snow? Do you enjoy winter or are you counting the days until Spring? It is 55 days away for those who can’t stand the cold, rain, snow and dark days of winter.
Have a great day my friends, thank you for stopping by and spending part of your day with me.

What a great array of really pretty Valentine inspired items! I have bought a few cards and a special book on life and love for a special someone, but I need to get to Target soon as they always have cute, inexpensive ‘heart items’ for a little Valentine decorating.
Glad you enjoyed the snow – so sorry hubby was not well – bet your baked goodies soon had him feeling better!
Melting now outside and the most beautiful sunrise this morning – and that huge golden moon last night! Certainly days of awesome skies despite being so cold.
Stay cozy Elizabeth – hot chocolate and all that X
NO SNOW BUT A LITTLE SUNSHINE YESTERDAY!
I fertilized the GARDEN and it felt good………..
NO I did not know that about Edith WHARTON!
Hope your husband is OKAY sounds a lot like that O word!!!!!!!
XXX
Elizabeth, I thought it sounded like the O too, but the irony is that he has not left the house in 10 days, by that I mean he takes walks and gets the mail but otherwise he has been home. Edith Wharton is fascinating! I am looking forward to seeing more of your garden. Take care
Sounds like you had a great weekend. I hope your husband is over being sick.
Thank you Paula!
I was watching for some snow angel pics! Love that you got 4” of that fluffy stuff. It’s been in the teens here and now up in the 40’s today but will drop down again this week which delays outdoor reconstruction a bit. Hopefully indoor redo will begin this week! Happy Monday!
I do have a couple of snow angel photos! I will share them with you. Sorry about your construction issues, it get so wearing doesn’t it.
We have a lot of snow and deep cold.
We were suppose to have sun all week and I am still waiting for it. LOL! The garden is calling me. I love the cupcakes, so adorable! I hope your husband feels better soon!
Oh yes to the first footprints! You never grow out of that! Thanks for sharing.
Love the mug! We didn’t get that much where we are in NJ. It has been so very cold!
How’s your husband?
Love Edith Wharton but didn’t know it was her birthday. Happy Birthday, Edith. I get so much enjoyment from her books. The Age of Innocence is my favorite and House of Mirth haunts me. Tragic Lily Bart. We got a treadmill a year ago and are loving it. No Peloton recommendations, but stay away from Mr. Big’s instructor. I really need to try an online yoga class … can you believe I never did that during our various lockdowns?! No snow here, in fact in feels like spring. It’s time to get the the nursery and start working in the garden. Have a great week! xo
I love the Age of Innocence! Edith Wharton was a very interesting woman, she also wrote a home decor book that was very popular. As for Peleton, I have never been a biker or a person that likes to do spin classes but I love the Peloton. The instructors are amazing. As for online yoga, you would love it! I do not want to think about Spring, I love winter and we still have at least another month or two of cold weather, ups and downs. Have a great week Juliet!
Sounds like a relaxing weekend, Elizabeth. I hope your husband is feeling better. Aren’t snowy winter mornings the best? So calm and peaceful.
