Good Monday morning friends, how was your weekend? Mine was a little bit of work and a lot of fun. The weather was cold in the morning and by the afternoon it was about 55-60. I am not complaining because in a couple of months it will be hot, hot, hot and humid and I will be wishing for cool mornings and counting the days until Fall.
Monday Musings
Saturday, my brother and his family came for dinner and it was scrumptious. It is so nice to live near family again. I have not lived in the same state or county as my brother in over 30 years and now I get to see him and as often as I like. We made Momofuku Bossam, which is a slow roasted pork with a brown sugar crust, we used this recipe, if you decide to try it be sure that you make both sauces. We also had a cucumber salad, white rice, Kimchi slaw, and Gochujang Braised Chickpeas. For dessert, chocolate chip cookies warm from the oven.
Sunday I organized my Christmas decorations and moved the boxes which were scattered all over the garage into one area. I have a lot of decorations and I did not get rid of one thing. I donated a lot before we moved and my mission this weekend was simply consolidating them, I may cull them out next year.
Allergy Treatments Suggested By Readers
I worked in the yard for a little bit on Sunday afternoon, that was a huge mistake, it was windy and I ended up covered in pollen. Thank you by the way for all of your suggestions and tips for dealing with seasonal allergies. I made a list of your suggestions just in case anyone else could use a few tips.
Cathy from Quilting on Mainstreet uses: Allergan and Flonase
Cindy from Cloches and Lavender uses: Zyrtec
Joan suggested: “a saline nasal rinse every night, and I make a lemon ginger tea that is a simple recipe: A hunk of ginger root the size of a lemon, 3 lemons, wash, do not peel any thing, chop all in small pieces, and put in a med. pot of water, bring to a boil then simmer for 20 mins. It will keep in the fridge for several days, just add more water and bring to a boil. Sweeten with honey, and drink hot.”
Memee uses chlorpheniramine maleate 4mg from Walgreens brand name Wal-Finate.
I went to the store on Sunday morning and all of the over the counter allergy medications you suggested were sold out! I was able to get some Flonase which works great and I have made Joans tea and it is delicious and soothing.
What I Bought Lately
My friend Kim shared this bag a couple of weeks ago and I loved it. I received mine this past week and it is beautiful! It is well made and it’s $34.00! I cannot wait to use. it.
I also ordered this blue and white dress, I haven’t received it yet but I love the color and I think it looks comfortable.
In case you missed it Saturday my friends Kim of the blog Northern California Style and Juliet of Make Mine a Spritzer shared our weekend roundup of everything from wedding outfits, a Santa Cruz surf home, chocolate chip blondies and all things flowers for spring including perfume, dresses and food. You can find my post here.
I hope that you have a great day and a wonderful week.

One thing that I have used for allergies, and any respitory issues, is a neti pot. I use it religiously, in the morning and before bed. In addition, at bedtime I use fluticasone nasal spray (I used to use the prescription, now available over not counter, CVS has their own label). I have been doing this for years and it has helped immensely. One friend even jokes that the nets pot is like yoga for your sinuses. In years past, before the pandemic, if I had a cold or sinus infection, I would use a neti pot numerous times throughout the day. It helps keep your sinuses, and nasal passages clear, without drying you out, like some medications can.
Jill, I have never used a Neti pot, I will have to get one. I have some Flonase and it seems to be working. Have a great week.
We finally had an amazing warm Sunday yesterday and I was outside gardening all day! It was soooooo nice, really have missed being outside so much. Have a wonderful Monday!
Melba, that sounds lovely. I am sure that you are so excited to get out there. Have a wonderful week Melba!
Use local honey in your tea it works amazing to help stave off the allergies.
Lynette, that is a great idea. Thank you!
It’s been cold here, and not moderating until Wednesday
Seasonal allergies are the worst. But it’s a great excuse to stay inside too though.
Rosemary you are so right, a few more weeks in the house before a hot humid summer.
