“Start as you mean to go on.” Each morning is a new beginning, starting it on a positive note sets the tone for the rest of the day. Here are 7 morning habits to start your day on a positive note.
Good morning friends, thank you for you kind comments and condolences for Paula, as well as, your thoughts about Ukraine. It is very difficult to be happy and carry on with life when you know that across the world people are just trying to survive, escape and stay alive.
Morning Habits Start Your Day Off Right
Morning is the most important part of the day, it is the beginning of each and every day and how we start it sets the tone for the rest of the day. The first hour or two of our morning impacts our mental and physical state for the entire day. Think about that, if you wake up rushed you find yourself rushed the rest of the day, if you wake up tired or grumpy typically you are grumpy and tired for the whole day. Today I thought I would share 7 ways which will hopefully become habits to start your day off right.
7 Ways To Start Your Day Off On A Positive Note
Become a morning person
I am a bit of a hybrid, I love to stay up late for the same reasons that people like to get up early, but I also wake up every day no matter how late I stay up between 6:30 and 6;45.
Instead of hitting the snooze button once or twice, and then jumping out of bed and frantically rushing around why not wake up early? Waking up early gives you time to take things slow and get ready for the day. When you aren’t rushing around you have less stress. Rising early gives you a little extra time to yourself to write in your journal, to take a walk, or maybe even have a peaceful moment or two to read a chapter of a book, meditate,

Hydrate
Before you drink your first cup of coffee drink a large glass of water. You have been sleeping for 8 hours and your body is dehydrated. To make this an easy habit to adopt and to remember leave a reusable water bottle filled with water next to your bed or in the bathroom so that after you brush your teeth you can drink a glass or your bottle of refreshing water. Here are 5 tips to hydrate more.
Make Your Bed
Making your bed sets the tone for the day, it is the first task you have accomplished and you haven’t even left the bedroom. A beautifully made bed is a welcome place at the end of the day and a peaceful place to lay your head.
Years ago I read the book Make Your Bed: Little Things That Can Change Your Life… And Maybe the World (based upon the commencement speech above) in which Admiral McRaven shared his thoughts on the matter. “If you make your bed every morning, you will have accomplished the first task of the day. It will give you a small sense of pride and it will encourage you to do another task and another and another,” he said. “By the end of the day, that one task completed will have turned into many tasks completed. Making your bed will also reinforce the fact that little things in life matter.”
Journal
I have always kept a journal, actually 2, one for my thoughts and one a gratitude journal. I would write in them each evening before bed but recently I started to write in the quiet of the morning and it has made a world of difference in my day. Now I write three things in my journal, my intentions and affirmations for the day, what I am grateful for and my goals. Starting the day this way helps you prioritize your tasks, boosts your mood and puts you in a positive mindset so that you are ready to seize the day.
Exercise Your Body
Go for a walk, meditate, do some stretches or yoga, jump on your Peleton, whatever you like that gets your body moving.
Exercise Your Brain
Play Wordle, Free Rice, learn a new work(word of the day)do a crossword puzzle or something that fires up your brain and gets you ready for the rest of the day. Keeping your mind sharp and active is something people of all ages need to do, not just the aging.
Breakfast
“Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a queen, and dinner like a pauper.”
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, you are breaking your fast after a long night sleep, it fuels your mind and body for the day. Make sure it contains protein, fiber and healthy fats, it will fill you up and help with digestion. Make a smoothie, or eggs and avocado toast, if you prefer oatmeal make sure to add a little protein along with it like some peanut butter.
Starting the day on a good note and being intentional about how you do it can lead to a healthier and happier life. There are lots of other things you can do to start the day right, like setting your workout gear out the night before, meal prep so that you do not have to think about breakfast, getting rid of clutter, time blocking, etc. You do you, find morning habits and routines that work for your life.

It’s hard for me to be a morning person. I’m very much a person of the night.
These are great tips. Except for the “be a morning person” I’ve got them all down. The be a morning person is very hard for me. I’m very much a night owl. I don’t hit my full stride till about 9:00 pm so if I go to bed early in order to get up early, I’m missing my most productive hours.
Janet, some people are most productive at night. The most important thing is to make sure that you are getting enough sleep. Thank you for coming by!
My routines have changed lately with normalcy and sameness eluding me. Ready to get the porch ready for mornings to journal, have quiet time, coffee and breakfast there. Thankful for your reminder to drink water first…love all of your suggestions. Happy Wednesday!
I do all of these except jJournaling. I think of blogging as a journal.
I’m so sad about Paula.
My toddler is my alarm clock but it’s a great idea to change your mindset so you have a good day. Thanks for sharing!
These are all great tips! Mornings are not my best.
