Monday Musings No.21, a weekend recap and a few Easter recipes, last minute Easter dresses, books and sales.
Monday Musings No. 21
Good Monday morning friends! Did you have a nice weekend? We had a wonderful weekend. Saturday we spent the day at the harness races. Our villages has been hosting these races since 1915 and it is quite the event. There are tents filled with food, cocktails, and of course lots of family and friends.
Some people dress as if they are at the Derby with big hats and flowing dresses others are in casual attire. I had plans to wear a beautiful dress and hat but Mother Nature had other plans and when the day dawned cloudy and 41 degrees, a Barbour jacket, jeans and plaid scarf were pulled out instead.
After several hours of watching the races, eating tasty treats, placing bets and standing in the cold we headed home to a fire and a cup of chocolate.
Sunday I spent the day in the kitchen baking my favorite brownies, carrot cake loaves, and a few other treats for my Easter boxes that are headed to Fed-ex this afternoon. I will share the carrot cake recipe with you tomorrow, just in case you want to make it for your holiday celebration.
We will be spending Easter with my brother, and as we only live two miles from one another we are splitting the menu. He is making the ham, a salad and yeast rolls and I am making the asparagus with breadcrumb topping, au gratin potatoes and we are both making a dessert.
My brother is an amazing baker and his creations are always fabulous. I typically bake nostalgic and traditional recipes, cheesecake, brownies and cakes are some of my favorite things to make. My brother likes to bake more complicated pastries, cakes, and things like that. Last week he spent 2 days making us cronuts. As of now neither one of us has decided what to make but I am leaning towards a chocolate cheesecake with truffles and sugar cookies.
Easter Finds
Saturday I shared some classic gingham plates, napkins, baskets and more that are perfect for your holiday table.
