Derby Day
Today is Derby day, will you be watching or attending a Kentucky Derby Party? What can I say, I am here for the Oaks Lily(not the Julep) and the pimento cheese. I know that many people love Mint Juleps but I have never acquired a taste for them. I do however love an Oaks Lily, it is the official drink of The Kentucky Oaks. Which by the way, is the sister race of the Kentucky Derby, held yesterday.

Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day, a day set aside to celebrate mothers and all that they do, which is A LOT! Mother’s are teachers, caregivers, housekeepers, cooks, bakers, taxi driver, doctors, helpers, a shoulder to cry on, the best hug givers, and so much more. My mother has been all of those things and my friend, confidant, cheerleader, interior decorator, employer, she has loved me at my best and my worst and she is exactly what I want to be when I “grow up.”
Let’s make this day special for all of the mom’s in our lives. Make them breakfast in bed or prepare a family brunch complete with mimosas, coffeecake, hash-brown casserole and scrambled eggs. Whatever you do today for your mom, make sure that you spoil her rotten with sweet treats, cards, gifts, flowers and love.
If you can’t be with your mom today maybe make something she enjoyed or do something she loved and cherish the memories of the special times you shared with her.
I won’t be with my mom this year, but my two sister’s will spoil her tomorrow and I will the next time she visits.

In case you missed it
I shared an easy and delicious, one bowl Lemon Loaf Cake this week. If you have 10 minutes you could make this for your mom!
Friday Favorites, where I shared a few book recommendations, tea themed gifts and so much more.
That is it for weekend meanderings this week. I hope that you enjoyed Julia Berolzheimer x Pottery Barn collection, if you add a piece or two to your home or garden let us know how you like it.
Have a wonderful weekend and a very Happy Mother’s Day to you.

The lemon loaf was fabulous! Thanks for sharing the recipe. The Julia B collection with PB is too reminiscent of ‘shabby chic’ for me, so that’s a pass.
Wishing you a Happy Mother’s Day!
Mary, I am happy you enjoyed the lemon loaf! Have a wonderful weekend.
Enjoy the Derby!
Thank you William.
Elizabeth, I had no idea about the Julia collaboration. Some really pretty things and I might need that scalloped potting bench! It could do double as a nice serving area for outdoor entertaining. Love her scallops on things. It’s exciting about the derby. My husband is from Louisville and we always talk about having a Derby party. I was at a really fun one once here. I have never heard of the oaks drink, but that sounds better than a julep! We have to try. I have your lemon cake as the next lemon thing I will bake for my dad. Hope you have a lovely weekend. I will be thinking of my mother.. and I hope to have lunch out relax and read. That is all I ask! Fun post. xo
Kim, the Oaks drink is delicious and refreshing. I had no idea your husband was from Loiusville, how wonderful, it is a beautiful place. You definitely need to have a derby party! I do not like Bourbon so juleps are never on my drinks list. My husband loves them and in fact he drinks them from a vintage sterling silver cup from the Kentucky Derby 1964 I believe.
The lemon cake is so good, I do not usually like lemons in baked goods but this cake is scrumptious. I think you and your dad will love it.
Have a wonderful Mothers day. I hope you celebrate what a wonderful mom you are and think of your mother and all of the wonderful times that you shared. xo
Good morning, Elizabeth! I can’t believe I missed Julia’s collab with Pottery Barn. Thank goodness I have you to keep me up to speed. I adore her. She grew up here and her mom was in my high school class. I didn’t know her but she is good friends with on of my besties. So I always feel pride through six degrees of separation! I’m going to pour over her collection right now. I loved your lemon loaf this week … you bake the most wonderful things. What a lovely tribute to your mom. Mom’s are the best and I’m not sure we truly appreciate them until we’re a little older. Wishing you a happy weekend. Enjoy the buggy fest! xo
Juliet, I love your 6 degrees of separation story! That is very cool. She is an amazing blogger and I am always excited to see bloggers write books, and of course collaborate with brands. I felt really bad for them when they “miscalculated” how much work and how many collections there were going to be for Gal Meets Glam and sadly ended up having to sell their name.
My mom is an amazing lady and I am so blessed to have her not only for a friend but so much more.
I hope that you have a lovely weekend Juliet.
I really need to try the lemon loaf. Lemon is one of my favorite flavors all year long.
Rosemary, I hope that you try it. The recipe is very easy, one bowl and it is delicious.
Oh my gosh! This is all so beautiful.
Thank you Carol.
Hi Elizabeth
There are so many good things here! I agree with you about the mint juleps. The Oaks Lily sounds much more up my alley. I am saving that lemon cake recipe! Sounds like something I could actually tackle!
Thank you Cindy! I hope that you are well and did not tax yourself moving all of your large planters this weekend. Summers’ party sounds like it was a lot of fun. She is a very sweet little girl. Have a wonderful week!
