It was the perfect weekend—a little relaxing, time spent with family and a day spent perusing 100 antique vendors.
Monday Morning Musings
Good morning friends, did you have a nice weekend and Mother’s Day? Our weekend was relaxing and very low key.
We started just as we always do, reading in bed with coffee(husband), hot chocolate(me), a pile of books, and magazines between us and treats for the dogs.
Then a shower and quick breakfast of avocado toast before we were off for the day.
But not before my husband mistook my new for pajamas. The same dress I might add that no less than 8 people complimented me on the rest of the day. Funny, none of them said “I like your pajamas.”
We spent the day perusing over 100 antiques stalls and stores in the historic town of Cameron. Our quest was for an antique piece of furniture to repurpose into a kitchen island.
Just before we were about to give up we found a contender and have it on hold at the antique store.
The piece that we found will need a few adjustments to make it work. It will have to be raised(antique castors), and might need to an inch or two cut off the sides. Other than that it is perfect.
If you are interested in our kitchen design let me know and I will share some of the surfaces, design and inspiration.
Sunday
Sunday we were supposed to go to a dog show but honestly we wimped out because it was too cold to stand around outside. It was only 48 degrees, a big change form the sunny 76 degrees on Saturday. As I have three dachshunds at home, one of which is a former show dog, I am not sure that I missed much.
Bill, my husband made us Mother’s Day waffles and we puttered around and read until we went to my brothers’ for the afternoon.
My brother, the amazing baker, made a Fresh Strawberry Cake with Strawberry Buttercream Icing. He used local freshly picked berries for the reduction that was in the cake batter and the frosting.
The cake was delicious with a tender crumb, beautiful color and creamy frosting. I don’t have the recipe but I believe it is very similar to this one if you want to make one for your next family gathering.
