Pears, pears and more pears, a classic casual fall outfit, J. Crew home and more on Weekend Meanderings.

Good morning friends! Happy weekend meanderings to you, I am excited to be joining Kim and Juliet this weekend for our weekly series.
It has been heartbreaking to watch hurricane Ian completely decimate parts of Florida and with it, homes and lives. Millions of people have been affected by this devastating storm. If you would like to help you can make donations to the the organization of your choice. Here are a few that I donate to:
Here in NC, we only experienced a tropical storm with a day of winds, lots of rain and intermittent power outages. We woke up this morning to a yard littered with what seems like 5000 pinecones and tons of fallen branches. Thank God that is all we have to deal with.
I have lots of things to share today on weekend meanderings, so let’s get to it.
Weekend Meanderings

Pears, pears and more pears
Autumn brings with it a host of seasonal fruits and vegetables, some of my favorites are apples, cranberries, pomegranates, figs and pears. I frequently bake with apples and cranberries but this years I am trying to branch out( no pun intended) and use more pears. After sharing a delicious pear salad on the blog yesterday I decided to see if I could find some more recipes using pears that we all might enjoy. Here is what I found.

Move over caramel apples and welcome caramel dipped pears!

Image What Should I Make
Pickled pears, who knew. Not only a great DIY gift to add to your Christmas baskets along with chutney and cookies but perfect for your cheese boards, sandwiches and more.

Image Yummy Supper
How sweet are these little pear tarts?

Image The Roasted Root
I cannot wait to make this grilled cheese bagel breakfast sandwich with sliced apple, pear, cheddar cheese, caramelized onions, arugula, and sunny-side up egg. I think my guests will love this over Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Image Coley Cooks
This Pear Leek Galette with Goat Cheese and Walnuts is a simple, savory tart that would make a delicious dinner or appetizer.
Here are a few more just in case, a pear potato soup, pear and Gorgonzola pizza, and a spiced pear chutney.
Pear Finds
Did you know there were 500 varieties of pears? You can learn all about that and more in The Book of Pears!
Gorgeous still life from Dana Gibson.
The Nest pear candle.
Perfume
Or maybe add some pear perfume to your fall scent collection? This one and this one sound delightful from the descriptions.
Kitchen Items
This beautiful holly and pear loaf pan, and this baking pan.
Casual, Chic Fall Outfit from H & M
sweater//pants//plaid bag//shoes//scarf //nail polish//bracelet
I was perusing H & M and thought I would put together a cosy, chic outfit. Everything, except the bracelet and nail polish, are from H & M.
J. Crew Home
Did you know that J.Crew has a home division now? There are sheets, candles, napkins, placemats and so much more. My favorite pieces are from Barebones, I own this, and this and LOVE them.

Made the black bean soup the other day & we loved it! Left it on the thick side so served over rice.
We are in NC too…near Chapel Hill and will have a lot of yard pick up to do also. Always enjoy your posts.
So happy that you made the soup and enjoyed it! I will have to serve over rice the next time. I sometimes add roasted sweet potato chunks to my bowl for added vegetables and fiber.
It is amazing how many cones, and branches and debris there is, then again after 24 hours and rain and wind not so much.
Good luck with the clean-up, happy you are safe and well.
Have a wonderful weekend.
These pear photos are incredible! I think pears must be under rated because because your post brings out the very best in them.
Parsnips and pears play off the flavor of each other well, makes a wonderful soup with a pinch of nutmeg added. I make pear mince for pies and squares to enjoy throughout the year, just not for the festive season. Internet can be used to source these both out if you want more recipes. Thank-you for blessing us with your inspiring blog.
Nancy, thank you for sharing! I am going to try to make pear bars this week, I will also look up a recipe for pear mince. That sounds delicious. As for the soup, my husband loves parsnips! Have a wonderful weekend.!
Elizabeth, Loved this post. I am a pear fan. I love them in salads with toasted walnuts. They are also so good on a cheese board. I am intrigued by the canning ! Those looks so pretty and you’re right what a good gift. I need to try a tart or pie. I also love pear on the table at Thanksgiving..The green ones can be so pretty around that time.
Also great outfit -and the grey! So lovely for fall.
Wow congrats on your 500th Friday post. That is fantastic. I hope you did something nice for yourself. Keeping up with blogging requires so much time and dedication.
Hope your weekend is lovely and I’m so glad you all are safe there after this terrible storm. xo
Kim, I would love for you to share a few of your pear recipes! I think we could all use them. As for decorating with pears! Love that idea too. I like the idea of using what we have and then consuming it too.
Loved your post, you always have the best adventures!
Have a wonderful week! xo
I meant to say I will try the bean soup! Looks just right for October.
I hope that you try it Kim you will love it!
Love all of these pear ideas, Elizabeth. I too tend toward apples and neglect the pear. Pear perfume … not that’s a new one. I bet that Nest candle smells divine. So glad you made it through the storm relatively unscathed. My heart breaks for those directly in Ian’s path. Hope you enjoy the weekend. xo
Thank you Juliet! There are so many wonderful pear products and recipes, I guess the humble pear needs to have a little time and attention on the table. Thank you Juliet, thankfully it was not as bad as we feared. I too am heartbroken for all who have suffered and lost so very much.
Such a beautiful post. Love your images and your recipes sound so delicious. I’ve never cooked with pears, but I admire their “form”. So glad you all didn’t get much of the fallout of the hurricane. so devastating seeing all the coverage and many lives altered and uprooted. Thanks so much for coming by to visit, today. take care. Debra
Thank you Debra! I’ve not cooked with pears very often myself and am looking forward to trying a few of these recipes.
My heart breaks for the people who have lost so much in the storm, I pray that the assistance they need is readily available to them.
Have a great week, thank you for coming to visit.
Oh, how I love pears! Can’t wait to try all of these recipes. I am thankful you are okay…as for those pine cones? I can’t think of anyone who will use and love them more! Thank you so much for sharing my yeast bread! Happy Sunday!
Thank you my friend. I am thankful that we came out unscathed and heartbroken for those who did not. Mother Nature is fierce and a force to be reckoned with.
I cannot wait to make the pickled pears!
Have a wonderful week! I hope that you have lots of feet under your table!
xo
All of these pears look so good! I don’t know why I don’t buy pairs more often. They are so beautiful and yet I always reach for the humble apple!
Love your cozy fall outfit too!
Annie, that seems to be the consensus this weekend. Maybe I have inspired people to try a few pear recipes. Have a wonderful weekend, welcome hone.
Oh my goodness pickled pears! I love pickled anything. Those caramel pears…ooh caramel anything as well. Always enjoy you ladies Saturday favorites!
Cindy, I think the picked pears look amazing! I cannot wait to try them. Thank you for stopping by. Loved your post an that sweater!
So many fun links to dive into, Elizabeth! I love all the pear content you pulled together. I forget how versatile they are and how they can be dressed up or down and enjoyed in lots of different ways. I’ve never heard of pickled pears but I’m excited to check them out. Glad you guys are ok from the storm. I’ll be so glad when hurricane season is officially over. The devastation on the west coat of Florida is truly heartbreaking and I’m grateful both of my cousins and their families are still alive. Hugs, CoCo
