Musings

Good morning friends, how was your weekend? I’ll be honest, I stayed up way too late last night and now I am dragging. Did you know that 18.8 million are predicted to miss work today on what has been coined “Super Sick Monday”? My calendar is full this week so no skipping work for me.

Friday

Friday is cleaning day at my house. I know there are a lot of people that do this on the weekend, but I like to take 2 hours on Friday to straighten up. It is therapeutic to clean, sort the paperwork, file and put away the piles and to start the weekend fresh. That way when we wake up Saturday there are no looming chores, piles of laundry, etc. The house is sparking and ready for whatever we have planned.

Saturday/Sunday

Saturday I spent the day with friends; lunch, lots of laughs and a little shopping. Sunday time with family and then home just after the start of the game.

Bill is a Chiefs fan, he went to a party and then came home at half time to watch the rest of the game with me. Although I didn’t really watch I was tuned in to the commercials, did you have a favorite? I cannot say that I did this year. Maybe I missed “the good ones.” The Dunkin Donut commercial with Ben and Jen was cute but that is the only one I remember.

Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day, do you have plans. If not and it has got you down, just remember it is only one day, and you can make your own fun. Kim remarked on this in her weekend meanderings post, check out what she had to say.

Ok, grab your coffee, tea or chocolate and on to 5 Things.

1.READ

Instead of sharing the latest book I read I wanted to share my Valentine’s Day gift to myself, it is released on February 21st.

Book cover of A Table Full of Love, left side is marbleized with orange, red and yellow, with a photo of a cake and flowers.

A Table Full of Love: Recipes to Comfort, Seduce, Celebrate & Everything Else In Between

For Skye McAlpine, there’s no better way to say “I love you” than with food. With recipes collected over a lifetime of meals prepared and shared, and with sections like Comfort, Seduce, Spoil, Nourish, and Cocoon, A Table Full of Love teaches you the culinary love language to say it, too.

Whether mending a friend’s heartbreak with baked fennel and burrata gratin, seducing someone new with roast duck legs and winter citrus, nourishing family with the perfect eggs on toast, or gathering all of them together around a lit birthday cake, Skye McAlpine knows the flavor of any dish is more than its ingredients. Rather, it’s the emotions and memories we collect over a lifetime of cooking and being cooked for.

To learn more about Skye McAlpine and the inspiration behind the book read How the pandemic taught this UK chef to cook with love.

It seemed fitting to explore Skye McAlpines’ house in Venice and in England to see where she entertains and creates the recipes in her cookbooks.
