Monday Musings No. 64, a weekend update + 5 Things: what I read, watched, and discovered this weekend and more.
MUSINGS
Good Monday morning friends, happy Spring! It’s 30 this morning, that doesn’t feel like Spring to me. But the cardinals splashing in the bird bath and the daffodils waving in the breeze are signs that she is here.
Springtime is the season of renewal and new possibilities. If there is something you have been wanting to do why not start today and then in a few months the “seeds” you sow will blossom into something wonderful.
Dust off your shoes and go for a walk. Turn off the tv and read a book. Bring a little of spring into the house, a few branches, small flowers and let their color brighten your day and your mood. Do a little spring cleaning in the house and declutter your mind from all it has been storing as we hibernated this winter. Open your windows and thoughts to the possibilities that lie ahead in this new season.
I have talked many times about my only plot of grass that I am turning into a wildflower meadow. This weekend we went looking for a birth bath to sit in the center. I want my birds and bees and any other creature to have a space to rest and drink from. Sadly I did not find “the one” But I did find an amazing faux bois table and benches for another area that we are working on.
This week I will be tilling the grass and weeds and planting the seeds. And even more exciting I met a 89 year old farmer that gave me lessons on planting potatoes. So I guess this year I am going to try that as well.
What are your plans for Spring? A garden? An adventure? A little decluttering?
Ok, onto +5 things!
+5 THINGS

The Last Painting of Sara De Vos
Amsterdam, 1631: Sara de Vos becomes the first woman to be admitted as a master painter to the city’s Guild of St. Luke. Though women do not paint landscapes (they are generally restricted to indoor subjects), a wintry outdoor scene haunts Sara: She cannot shake the image of a young girl from a nearby village, standing alone beside a silver birch at dusk, staring out at a group of skaters on the frozen river below. Defying the expectations of her time, she decides to paint it.
New York City, 1957: The only known surviving work of Sara de Vos, At the Edge of a Wood, hangs in the bedroom of a wealthy Manhattan lawyer, Marty de Groot, a descendant of the original owner. It is a beautiful but comfortless landscape. The lawyer’s marriage is prominent but comfortless, too. When a struggling art history grad student, Ellie Shipley, agrees to forge the painting for a dubious art dealer, she finds herself entangled with its owner in ways no one could predict.
Sydney, 2000: Now a celebrated art historian and curator, Ellie Shipley is mounting an exhibition in her field of specialization: female painters of the Dutch Golden Age. When it becomes apparent that both the original At the Edge of a Wood and her forgery are en route to her museum, the life she has carefully constructed threatens to unravel entirely and irrevocably.

Thank you Donna! Colonial Williamsburg is beautiful. I have been many times, as I lived for 13 years in Virginia Beach and it was just 45 minutes away.
