WEEKEND MEANDERINGS

Good morning and a happy Saturday to you! It’s time for weekend meandering with Kim and Juliet, our weekly series where we share all of the things that piqued our interest and caught our eye over the past week.

It’s been a busy week on the blog and at home. Thursday 6 friends and I hosted a virtual cookie exchange! I hope that you were able to visit Kim, Juliet, Cindy, Annie, Mary Ann and Molly and to print out the recipes! If you missed it, you can find my recipe for viennese whirls and links to all of the other ladies scrumptious cookies in the post.

Viennese Whirl Cookies Dipped in Chocolate with pistachios

My dad flew into town yesterday with my sister and we are celebrating his 85 birthday today! I am looking forward to the party and the chocolate cake that my brother is making. I am an amateur baker compared to my brother, his cronuts, crepe cakes, and pies are one of the highlights of our family get togethers.

Ok, let’s get to it.

Recently, I discovered Lauren E. Lowe on Instagram and fell in love with her classic, elegant design. Her work reminds me to the English interiors that I love. I also love her mix of vintage and antique pieces as well as her eclectic mix of art.

John Derian Christmas Shop

Decoupage artist John Derian has created plates, platters, paperweights, lamps and other objects using his collection of antique etchings, engravings, and manuscripts. Recently he collaborated with Target on a sold out collection of Thanksgiving pieces. Hopefully he will do another because all of the piece were beautiful and amazing quality.

During the year his shop is a feast for the eyes but starting in September it is a wonderland of beautiful ornaments, woodland creatures, puzzles, gift tag and more. You can see all 236 pages of Christmas decor on the website. And read more about what it takes to get the shop ready for the holidays.

If you can’t get to the John Derian shop in NY don’t worry you can find some of his pieces, including his book(which is fabulous), puzzles and paper goods at some of your favorite stores, Neiman Marcus, Target and Amazon.  The Christmas puzzles are great to have around for guests or to give as a gift.

Castle Howard

If you have been reading the blog for any length of time you know I am an Anglophile and love an English country house tour. Many of the stately homes across the UK are decorated for the holidays and Castle Howard is no different, this year the light show and decorations are a magical adventure in Neverland!

As I cannot visit there in person I will just enjoy the show on Youtube. If you have plans to visit London, York, Oxford, Edinburgh and all places in between make sure to book mark Kim’s last 5 weeks of weekend meanderings. She has shared every detail of her amazing trip.

  3. Good morning, Elizabeth! And Happy Birthday to your dad! I hope your family has a wonderful celebration. Oh my, I went down the rabbit hole of Lauren Lowe … and I’m enchanted. I need to get a few things done and then I’m going to get right back to it. Where has she been all my life! So fun with the cookie exchange this week … thanks for organizing it. I’m so inspired to bake! xo

    1. It’s true. The good thing is that we do not like to bake the same things. He like very complicated recipes, like 400 crepe layer cake, laminating dough for croissants and cronuts, etc. I love old fashioned recipes.
      Have a wonderful weekend Brenda!
