WEEKEND MEANDERINGS

Good morning and a happy Saturday to you! It’s time for weekend meandering with friends Kim and Juliet. This is our weekly series where we share all of the things that piqued our interest and caught our eye over the past week.

It is the last week of January, where did the time go? It seems like we were just celebrating the new year? Maybe it’s age, does time go faster the older you get? Or does it slow down? According to my 96 year old mother-in-law who spends most if her time in bed and in her room time goes by very slowly when you are that old.

As for me I am not sure, I think the months that I love seem to speed by and the ones that I don’t seem to last forever. I am a winter lover, not many are, but I am and I am enjoying every cozy moment at home over these gray, cold months. Hot, humid summer days which I loved as a child are no longer my favorite and seem to last a long, hot, humid eternity.

No plans this weekend except cleaning out or should I say weeding out the books cases. I have so many books and not enough space. Hopefully this year we will be adding more bookcases to the house but until then we cannot keep tripping on the stacks, so I am weeding out some of my least favorites.

What about you? What are your plans?

Ok, let’s get to weekend meanderings.

It’s National Chocolate Cake Day!

chocolate snack cake with a knife and a piece cut out

Today is National Chocolate Cake day. There is a day for everything now days, some are a little strange, like National boiled egg day and some I can totally get behind, chocolate cake day it one of them.

This chocolate snack cake is one of my favorites! It is easy and delicious, although to be perfectly honest I could eat a bowl of the frosting and leave the cake behind.

Are you a chocolate cake lover? Do you like lots of frosting or do you prefer a naked cake?

If loaf cakes are more your style, they are mine, you are going to LOVE this dense chocolate loaf cake.

FYI: I always get a lot of questions about the plates. They are Kate Spade, they are about 5 years old. But if you like dachshunds I rounded up of few of the plates on Etsy and Ebay.

  1. Elizabeth I am with you. I feel like January has been three months long! Gosh we have had a glut of gray days, which is so not normal for us. I am ready for a change.
Your chocolate cake looks delicious and so does the rice krispie chocolate bars. Your frosting was beautiful. I love the idea of snack cake size. That short outfit is adorable. Love the edging trim. So vintage.
The two outfits are pretty and the Valentines especially cute. I guess I better get my red out.. Valentine’s comes fast. Well I hope you have a lovely weekend and here’s to February and brighter days! xo

  2. Oh, Elizabeth … I don’t envy you sorting through your books. I find books the hardest thing to part with and I’ve been making some tough decisions too. Particularly with cookbooks. The good news is there are so many wonderful places that welcome our cast off books and the books will live a new life. That chocolate cake looks amazing and your dachshund plates are adorable. I’m frantically packing this weekend and I’ll do a deeper dive into your links when I’m on the plane. Happy weekend! xo

  3. I, too, adore winter – particularly in the South. Is it the Capricorn in me? I love the homey-days, the “so many books, so little time” rhythm of things, and tending to the backyard birds. Like you, I find a way to get through the tedious heat of summer. Perhaps that thought might lend itself to exploration in your thoughtful postings?

    1. Jean, that would be an interesting topic for a blog post. How to survive the heat and humidity of a long hot southern summer. For now I am going to enjoy every minute of winter.
      Have a great week!

  4. So much good stuff today Elizabeth, but what stood out were those no-bake dark chocolate peanut butter bars!
    I must be hungry! haha
