Weekend Meanderings
Good Saturday morning friends. It’s time for Weekend Meanderings with Kim, Juliet is taking some time off to prepare for her move and new house build. Join us as we share all of the things that piqued our interests and caught our eye this week.
Happy March, did you know that March was named after the Roman god of war, Mars? It was also the first month of the Roman calendar because war would start again in March after winter.
March is the start of spring, although not the official first day which is Thursday March 20th. There are buds on the trees, flowering pink trees and a pair of birds building a nest on my front porch. I have to be honest, I am not ready for the pollen that will be next so in the meantime I am savoring the chilly mornings.
How was your week? It was busy here and this week will be even more busy with pancake day, Ash Wednesday and the start of Lent next week.
Ok, let’s meander.
Garden Tours At Highgrove House
Highgrove House is King Charles home, when he purchased it in 1980 the only thing there was an overgrown kitchen garden and some pastureland. For the next 20 years he worked and designed the gardens with the help of gardeners Rosemary Verey and Miriam Rothschild.
The gardens have been open to the public since 1996 and have raised millions of dollars for The Price of Wales Charitable Fund.
Do you have a trip planed this year to the UK? Have you always wanted to visited King Charles Highgrove House? Starting today you can book your tickets for garden tours all season long. Book as soon as you know your schedule because these tours sell out fast.
If you do visit Highgrove House or the gardens come back and tell us all about it! This year it is not on my list so I will have to make do with this interesting book and video from esteemed gardener, landscape architect and author Bunny Guinness. Or visit the garden for a virtual tour on Google Arts & Culture.

Gibbs Gardens~The largest display in the US is in Gibbs Gardens just outside of Atlanta. There are over 20 million, yes million daffodils, representing more than 200 varieties of early, mid & late bloomers, and covering 50 acres of hillsides & valley.
Marks & Graham x Sanderson
Sanderson is one of my all time favorite English wallpaper and fabric manufactures. This year marks 160 years since Arthur Sanderson founded his wallpaper company. Known for their beautiful florals and elegant country house decor as well as the designs from Morris & Co.
Over the years they have collaborated with Emma Bridgewater, the Bloomsbury Group, The National Trust and now Marks & Graham.
“Founded in 1860, Sanderson has become one of the most renowned interior design and decorating brands worldwide,” the press release reveals. Since 1924, the English design house has held a Royal Warrant for supplying fabrics, paint, and wallcoverings to the Royal Residences. With its rich history in textiles and wallpapers, Sanderson is highly regarded for their expansive archive dating back to the 19th century.”
If you love English country florals you will love this collection, I personally love the checkers and dominos set, the wicker bags, this ring holder and the dog accessories. You can find all of the pieces in the collage at the bottom of the post. Or see all of the pieces in the collection here.
Mr. Rodgers
Did you know that Mr. Rodgers premiered in February of 1967?
Even more interesting, all of the sweaters that he wears in the show were knit by his mother! Each year she would knit a sweater a month, one for him, his sister and his father, the rest for friends and family. On Christmas they would open their sweaters, try them on and his mother would ask what they would each like for the next year. One of his sweaters is in the Smithsonian collection.
