Weekend Meanderings

Good Saturday morning friends. It’s time for Weekend Meanderings with Kim and Juliet. Join us as we share all of the things that piqued our interests and caught our eye this week.

It’s another beautiful day, everything is green and beautiful. The last two nights we had thunderstorms and woke to a green paradise. The peonies suffered from the storms, the ones that were left on the plants took a beating. But I did manage to cut a vase full(in the image above) and we are enjoying their beauty and scent in the kitchen.

As I mentioned yesterday my niece is in town and the last few days we have been spending lots of time with my family. My brother lives in town along with one of my sisters in fact they live 3 doors from each other. We had time at the pool, dinners laughing and talking, quiet walks and lots of fun.

Last night we went to a concert and today we are spending the day at home catching up on all sorts of things that went by the wayside while we had guests.

Yesterday 64 fabric samples arrived Fed-ex for the curtains and shades, hopefully one will work?

Ok, enough about me, let’s meander friends.

I discovered Lauren Liess in 2010, she had just started her blog, Pure Style Home, her design career and was pregnant with her first child. Since then she has moved houses more times than I can count but each time moving closer and closer to the house of her family dreams. Currently she lives with her husband Dave a former teacher and now business partner and their 5 children, and 2 ducks at The Meadow.

Lauren is also the author of 4 books, owner of an online store, creator of textiles, tile and furniture collections among other things. For more information about her store and design collaboration check out her website or follow along on Instagram.

Wanderlust~Star Bright Farms

Star Bright farms is a beautiful organic lavender farm in MD, it was started by photographer, Helen Norman and her family. Helen was the photographer of many if not all of Lauren Liess’s projects which is how I found her years ago.

The farm is a destination, there are 130 acres you can wander, have a picnic, do yoga, have cocktails, afternoon tea, stop at the cafe, or attend a concert and lots more.

Follow Star Bright Farms on Instagram or their website for up to date information and prices.

The Salt Path

Salt Path is a movie based upon the book of the same name by Raynor Winn.

The true story of a couple who lost everything and embarked on a transformative journey walking the South West Coast Path in England

Just days after Raynor Winn learns that Moth, her husband of thirty-two years, is terminally ill, their house and farm are taken away, along with their livelihood. With nothing left and little time, they make the brave and impulsive decision to walk the 630 miles of the sea-swept South West Coast Path, from Somerset to Dorset, through Devon and Cornwall.

Carrying only the essentials for survival on their backs, they live wild in the ancient, weathered landscape of cliffs, sea, and sky. Yet through every step, every encounter, and every test along the way, their walk becomes a remarkable and life-affirming journey. Powerfully written and unflinchingly honest, The Salt Path is ultimately a portrayal of home—how it can be lost, rebuilt, and rediscovered in the most unexpected ways.

Paolo Pejrone’s Garden

Paolo Pejrone‘s Italian garden is magical. He is considered Italy’s greatest landscape architect and garden designer. And has created hundreds of gardens around the world in France, England, Saudi Arabia and so many more places.

I do not have a green thumb nor do I have the patience to garden but I have great admiration for those that do.

  3. Your peonies are lovely. It’s storming here too! It’s 9:30 am but looks like 8 pm outside.
I want to do some baking!!! I haven’t in months since trying to lose weight (I eat EVERYthing I make). But we have company coming soon and I think everyone will love the lemon cake!

    1. Mary Ann, I hope that the sun came out and if not that you enjoyed a relaxing day inside.
I love baking! My secret is to enjoy 1 piece and to immediately give the rest away.
I hope that you enjoy the lemon cake and your guests.
      Happy Mother’s Day Mary Ann!

  4. Elizabeth, What fun to have family visit. You are so lucky to all live near each other. I can’t wait to sit down and watch these videos, especially the Italian gardener! The sweets look so good. Max does not eat sweets anymore, so my baking is off for a while. I have lost about 5 pounds, but I miss it. Love both your looks here. So pretty. I am ready for summer.
I hope you have a lovely weekend! Hugs, Kim

    1. Kim, we are very lucky to live near one another now. It’s funny because we all moved to different parts of the country and the world when we graduated college and now 30 years later we are back in the same town.
I loved the garden and The Salt Path! I hope that you do as well.
No sweets! I do not think I could do it. Good for Max and for you! I love to bake but mostly share it and only eat the one piece that I photograph.
Summer is starting to appear and while I love the sun I am not a fan of the humidity.
Have a wonderful weekend and a very Happy Mother’s Day to you Kim,
      xo

  5. Elizabeth! Your peonies are beautiful! The torrential spring rain and wind can really do a number on them, but luckily you rescued a few! The Salt Path sounds interesting!! And I’ll bet picturesque!
    Xo

    1. Thank you Annie, they were beautiful if fleeting this year. I am so happy to have salvaged what I did.
The Salt Path is a fabulous book, I hope that the movie lives up to it.
Have a beautiful weekend and a very Happy Mother’s Day.

  6. Hi Elizabeth,
Happy Mothers’s Day to you, you have three pups, and I know you are a wonderful mother to your fur babies. Also maybe being a mother figure to family members.
Such a blessing to have family close by, what a special gift that is, the gift that keeps giving.
It’s been a busy morning. I finally got to sit down and look and listen to Paolo Peirone’s Italian Garden. He is a treasure, gifted, it looks and sounds like the soil has enriched his life and others for a very long time. Yes, his garden is magical. I’m with you Elizabeth, I’m not a gardener either. My husband is the gifted Master Gardener. I get to benefit from all the TLC he gives to the roses. I’m in charge of pretty. Too bad about your Peonies. Glad you have some to enjoy. It’s one of my living favorite flowers.
    Have a relaxing weekend.

    1. Katherine,
Happy Mother’s Day to you, I am sure that you are a mother-figure to many as you are such a kind and compassionate woman.
I hope that you have a wonderful day and are not experiencing the searing heat just yet. Paolo Peirone is an amazing man and it is a joy to see the magic that people create around the world for others to enjoy. Roses are tough to grow, I am sure that your husbands knowledge and care has created a spectacular garden for you to enjoy.
Peoney season is so short but it is a joy to watch them poke from the winter ground and seminally overnight grow a foot at a time until there are little buds just waiting to burst.
Enjoy your weekend and THANK YOU, for your always kinds comments.

  7. Elizabeth … incredible about the storms and your poor peonies. Gardening is not for the faint of heart. That said, I do enjoy other’s who have the knack and I enjoyed Paolo’s home and garden tour … especially is four legged companions. Sounds like you had fun with family and are ready for a well deserved, laid back weekend mulling over fabric (64?!!!)! xo
