Weekend Meanderings
Good Saturday morning friends. It’s time for Weekend Meanderings with Kim and Juliet. Join us as we share all of the things that piqued our interests and caught our eye this week.
Are you a John Derian fan? Did you shop the Target Christmas collection? Did you buy anything?
I did not get up at 3 am last weekend but I did go online at 6 when I woke up and there were a lot of things sold out. Thankfully not the things I wanted. I purchased the tray, dessert plates and a candle for gifts. When I went pick them up, my Target had a lot of the stuff on the shelves, including the coveted pillows. So if you wanted something and missed it check your store or Target.com.
Target did not have any other Christmas decor that I could see except some holiday Oreos. Apparently they will be stocking the shelves this weekend once they get rid of the Halloween stuff.
Is it just me or does anyone else feel like people are putting their Christmas decor up earlier and earlier? Don’t get me wrong, I love my decor up as early as possible. I think it is because it takes so long to decorate and get your house they way that you like, that many want to enjoy it as long as possible. I am one of those people, some of my family members put their tree up about 2 weeks before Christmas and it is down December 26th as early as possible.
What do you think? And when do you decorate, in November or December or you skip it?
Ok, let’s meander.

“This is definitively not the sort of house I wanted to live in,” says Jonathan Reed and yet he created a beautiful home in a dilapidated Regency farmhouse.
My favorite piece in this collected house of art, sculpture and furniture is the Robert Thompson “Mouseman” table and chairs. I have wanted one for years and fingers crossed someday I will come across one.
Cobham Dairy
Originally built in 1208, this beautiful ornamental dairy had sadly fallen into ruin over the centuries. Now, thanks to a remarkable £1 million restoration project by the Landmark Trust, this fascinating piece of history has been brought back to life!
Artist~Charlie MacKesy
Charlie Mackesy is an artist, illustrator and author of the internationally bestselling book, The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse one of my favorite books! I love the message and the illustrations.

His newest book was just released, it’s called and would make a wonderful Christmas gift.
Movies to Watch
Stiller & Meara: Nothing is Lost
Ben Stiller tells the story of his parents, comedy icons Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara, while cleaning out their apartment with his sister after they have passed. In the process, Stiller turns the camera on himself and his family to examine Jerry and Anne’s enormous influence on their lives, and the generational lessons we all can learn from those we love.
We are all the same, and we all put our pants on one leg at a time. No matter how famous or talented you are there is a finite amount of time in the day and you cannot have or do it all.
You can watch this on Apple TV.
Mellody Hobson on Marriage to George Lucas, Yoda’s Best Advice and More |
This is not a movie but an interview with Mellody Hobson, someone that I have always admired.
Let’s Shop~Plaid Tidings

Plaid is a neutral at Christmas in my opinion and goes with almost any decor. I love plaid and have touches of it in my decor year round and at Christmas.

This year there are pillows, tablecloths, napkins, plates, mugs, bedding, ribbon and so much more for you to add a pop of plaid to your own home.

In Case You Missed It This Week on the Blog
It was a busy week on the blog.

On Monday I shared Sally Gunning, Heather Chadduck Hillegas, Schumacher, Holiday Outfit and more on Monday Musings.

You may have noticed a pattern on the recipes that I make and post, I share soups, salads and sweets. This week I shared this scrumptious spicy(not hot) butternut squash soup. It is delicious on its own or served with a salad, crusty bread or as the started for your meal.

Next up, Christmas. Yes, it’s October but have you noticed how fast the last 3 months of the year go by? Here are 15 Tips to Help You Get Ready for Christmas Now! Most important, in my opinion, MAKE A BUDGET!

Speaking of Christmas, on our monthly series “Sweet Treats for your Sweet Tooth” Sheri and I both shared cranberry desserts. Bookmark these scrumptious cranberry and pear crumble bars, they are a delicious addition to your holiday table and candy and cookie platters.

Last but not least, Friday Favorites, including this outfit and this scrumptious butternut squash and goat cheese quiche.

UNTIL NEXT TIME

On My Radar~The Holidays

Regarding Christmas shopping – everything has changed! My 2 granddaughters are growing up and instead of buying a lot of things that probably end up thrown on their bedroom floors I have limited my purchases to reflect their growing up. One of them would like a makeup desk with a lit mirror and matching chair. The older one doesn’t even say what she would like. She prefers other holidays. I will probably buy a couple Ralph Lauren clothing items as she likes that style. I recently took them out to Ulta to buy each one facial care products. Buying less isn’t cheaper, but it is easier for sure! My best friend told me a few years ago that her granddaughter really wanted gift certificates. She felt so sad about that, but she continued with stock stuffers.
Lyn, I could not agree more about Christmas shopping! It’s so different than it was only a few years ago.
Our grands typically ask for gift cards, it does take the fun out of finding something that we think would be great. My nice had a baby 3 months ago and I decided that I am going to start a library for him so in addition to all of the kids books I have been sending I will be buying one or two folio books a year so that he has them for his future library.
My other niece loves Ulta and I take her there to buy the things that she enjoys.
My husband and I don’t give gifts to one another any more because we both have too much and do not need anything more.
Thankfully we have a giving tree a the church and we picked a family with 4 kids to buy gifts for, the fun thing is that they want toys!
I hope that you have a wonderful weekend, thank you for sharing.
Wow…so much entertainment here. Thanks!
The only early Christmas decorating we do is putting up the exterior Christmas lights…as we had to get on the installers schedule and with the shorter days coming…I like them up 🙂
Elizabeth, So many fun videos to watch. I love all the English homes. I want to see the Stiller doc too. I love plaid, but my mind isn’t there yet. I’m still wrapping my head around the fact that Halloween is next week!
Love the crumblebars and the soup sounds so good! I will try it next week. I am so ready for soup season!
I hope you have a great week. xo
Hi Elizabeth,
I did order the John Derian owl quilt but when it was delivered I was not happy with the quality and returned it.Also the Santa pillow looked cheaply made.Love your soup recipe and I am going to watch the Stiller documentary this weekend.Have a lovely week!
Francesca, I am sorry your owl quilt was not as you had hopped.
The soup is spicy, not hot but has a great depth of flavor from the spices, I loved it.
The Stiller documentary looks so interesting. I am looking forward to watching it too.
Have a lovely weekend.
Hi Elizabeth,
I have not been acknowledging your lovely blogs lately, I have been engaged in too many things for my energy level. Sometimes I just go onto the next thing. Not to be concerned please, just want you to know sometimes your daily blogs go into my Junk Mail. ♀️ I don’t understand why but they do. I still pick them up. I will go back later this weekend and look at some of your links when I have a window of time.
I know you have the best and biggest heart for Christmas and do so much for everyone. We do not have any family to speak of so I do very little decorating. This might get you wondering, but we decided to donate our beautiful tree many years ago, I did the same with so many of my Christmas ornaments too. I hope to dress up our dinning room table and put out some pretty things we still have. The thing is my hubs is so laid back and easy to please he does not care if we have very little out. I used to put lots out that took days to decorate. I just don’t have the energy or interest anymore. I really enjoy seeing all the beauty that surrounds me through people like you.
Katherine,
Thank you for letting me know! I so appreciate you taking the time to comment, I know that life is busy so do not give it another thought. Hmm, I am not sure why my blog goes to spam, I have noticed that many of my favorite blogs have been ending up in my spam file. Maybe it is a new email filter?
When I first met my husband 30 years ago his parents did not put up a tree. The house was decorated but they had no tree for the same reasons that you mentioned. This is the first year that I didn’t feel like putting up a tree, thankfully King of Christmas reached out because it gave me a kick in the butt to put one up. I do love the lights and all of my special ornaments.
I am sure that your dining room will be beautiful and give just the right festive flare for you and your husband to enjoy.
My love of Christmas came from my mother and grandmother both made Christmas so special for my siblings and I. We moved every 2 years for the first 14 years of my life because my dad was in the CG, and we did not live near family. So my mom wanted our Christmas to be like the Christmas that she had growing up, everything from St.Nick on December 6th, Advent calendars, gingerbread houses to decorate, homemade cookies, a beautiful tree, and of course lots of DIY ornaments which my mom still has.
I hope that you have a lovely weekend. Thank you again!
Elizabeth! ‘Make a budget.’ Good advice! You’re absolutely right, Christmas stuff is in the stories earlier and earlier … soon it will creep back to Easter! Love the zjohn Darian Target collection and your beautiful dessert plates. Looks like I’m able to get those fabulous pillows through your link. Little Maggie will go mad. Now it’s time to make my cocoa and savor all your interesting video links. Yay! xo
I am not a huge Christmas person, but I love plaid at any time of year! Not red and green, of course:)
