Chocolate loved holiday snack mix

Good morning friends, the countdown to Christmas is on. I am making all sorts of Christmas snacks, cookies and food over the coming days in preparation for my holiday guests. I made one of my favorite holiday snacks, Jingle Jangle Chocolate covered snack mix.

Although Trader Joe’s Jingle Jangle holiday mix is available at the store, this holiday favorite often sells out as soon as it is available and my local Trader Joe’s is an hour from my house. With no time to spare for a drive I made it myself.

Why You Will Love Jingle Jangle Snack Mix

  • Homemade Jingle Jangle is easy to make and it’s delicious.
  • Chocolate covered cookies, chocolate covered pretzels, chocolate covered caramel corn, need I say more? It’s all about the chocolate.
  • Making this at home gives you complete control over the ingredients. You can choose premium dark chocolate instead of compound coating, select organic pretzels, and adjust the sweetness level to match your preferences. Whether you need two cups for yourself or twenty cups for holiday gifting this recipes is perfect.

What is Jingle Jangle Snack Mix?

Jingle Jangle, is a chocolate lovers holiday snack mix made by Trader Joe’s. Trader Joe’s introduced Jingle Jangle in 2013 as part of their seasonal holiday lineup. It’s an assortment of milk chocolate mini pretzels, dark chocolate-covered caramel popcorn, dark chocolate-covered Joe Joe’s cookie pieces, mini milk and dark chocolate peanut butter cups, and red candy-coated milk chocolate pieces all mixed together in a festive tin.

The sweet salty mix makes it the perfect holiday treat especially since it’s filled with chocolate-covered goodies. Since the first year it was offered Jingle Jangle is one of the fastest selling seasonal items. In fact sores struggle to keep it stocked from November to December and often times it sells out the first couple of weeks.

The good news is that this homemade version of Jingle Jangle snack mix is just as good if not better in my opinion. And the best part is that you can customize it to suit your taste.

How To Make Chocolate Jingle Jangle Snack Mix

  • In a microwave safe bowl melt your chocolate or melting wafers according to the directions on the bag. Be sure to watch while you are melting the chocolate or wafers so that they do not burn.
  • Place the caramel corn, broken Joe Joe’s cookies and plain pretzels in separate bowls. Pour melted chocolate over the top of each bowl and toss gently so that all of the pretzels, caramel corn and cookies are covered in chocolate.
  • Place the chocolate covered snacks on a Silphat baking liner or piece or parchment paper for the chocolate to set.
  • In a small bowl melt the white chocolate wafers and then drizzle the pretzels.
  • Once the chocolate has hardened on the pretzels, caramel corn, and cookies, add them to a large bowl. Then add the mini peanut butter cups and red candy gems and toss lightly to mix. Store in an airtight container until ready to eat.

Variations & Shortcuts

There are endless variations and additions to this sweet snack mix. And you can add or subtract whatever you like to this seasonal treat and satisfy your sweet tooth. And if you do not want to make the chocolate covered treats yourself then just buy them instead.

  • Use Ghirardelli Melting Wafers, chocolate chips, or chocolate bars. Melting wafers are easy to use but real chocolate will give you the best flavor. I use 60% chocolate chips or dark chocolate bars.
  • Add yogurt pretzels
  • Chocolate covered popcorn or caramel corn.
  • Use plain or chocolate covered pretzels. Dark chocolate covered pretzels and milk chocolate covered pretzels are available at your grocery store. I like Flipz, Snack Factory or Hersheys.
  • Mini peanut butter cups from Trader Joe’s or Reeses peanut butter cups.
  • Oreo’s, or chocolate sandwich cookies can be substituted for Joe Joe’s cookies. If you like mint use the mint Oreos or Joe Joe’s.

How to store Jingle Jangle snack mix

Jingle Jangle snack mix is best when enjoyed fresh but it can be stored in airtight containers at room temperature for up to 2 weeks. Use containers with tight-fitting lids rather than zip-top bags. Glass jars, plastic tubs with snap lids, or metal cookie tins. Store in a cool, dark place away from heat.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make this recipe nut-free?

Absolutely. The base recipe contains no nuts, but always check ingredient labels carefully. Many chocolate-covered pretzels are manufactured in facilities that process peanuts and tree nuts. Look for products with “made in a nut-free facility” certification if cross-contamination concerns you.

How far in advance can I make Jingle Jangle for holiday gifting?

Make it up to one week before gifting for optimal freshness. Beyond one week, pretzels gradually lose crispness even with perfect storage. Include a gift tag suggesting recipients enjoy within two weeks.

Can I use candy melts instead of real chocolate?

You can, but real chocolate tastes significantly better. Candy melts contain more stabilizers and less cocoa butter, creating a waxy texture and artificial flavor. They do melt more easily and harden more reliably, which appeals to beginners. For the best-tasting Jingle Jangle, invest in real chocolate.

Is Jingle Jangle gluten-free?

No, most pretzels contain wheat flour. Make a gluten-free version by using certified gluten-free pretzels and cookies. Snyder’s makes excellent gluten-free pretzels that stay crispy. Check all chocolate products for gluten since some contain barley malt or wheat-based additives.
