Weekend Meanderings
Good Saturday morning friends. It’s time for Weekend Meanderings with Kim and Juliet. Join us as we share all of the things that piqued our interests and caught our eye this week.
It’s going to be a beautiful, hot, sunny weekend. I took the afternoon off yesterday and Bill and I walked to the village, then to the pool for a few hours to soak up the sun and to read for a bit.
We have a few things to tick off our “to do” list this weekend because the next few months are going to be busy with guests, the holidays, travel and the end of the year.
I was reading this morning that over 50% of consumers are doing their Christmas shopping in September. Are you one of those people? When do you shop for the holidays? Do you purchase new decor each year or add a few new pieces?
Truth be told I am an early bird shopper, I like to get it out of the way so that I can bake and enjoy all of the holiday fun without worrying about shopping.
Speaking of baking, I am looking for some new cookie recipes to add to my cookie boxes this years, do you have a favorite recipe that you would share with me?
Ok, I have lots of fun things to share this week so let’s meander.
One to Follow~Amarins Lyklema
Do you like art? Do you have a favorite artist? I love the still life painters from the 17th century, my favorites are Rachel Ruysch and Ambrosius Bosschaert the Elder, I am also fascinated by botanical illustrators like Elizabeth Blackwell. Recently artist Amarins Lyklema popped up in my feed and down the rabbit hole I went.
Amarins is from The Netherlands and is a self-taught artist, her work is beautiful.
You can see more of Amarins work on her website, Instagram and Youtube.
My Mother’s Wedding~Kristin Scott Thomas
A few weeks ago I shared My Mother’s Wedding as it is a movie that I am looking forward to watching. I had no idea the story behind the movie, did you?
Emma Bridgewater Pottery
Are you a fan of Emma Bridgewater pottery, its colorful, whimsical mugs and plates and bowls? If so you will find these two interviews interesting, they are 9 years apart and tell the story of the factory and how Emma came up with the idea to start a pottery company that is known the world over.

The Beauty of Nature
The last two years a pair of wrens have built a nest behind a wreath on the side door of our house. This year they had three broods, and I had a front row seat to watch the action.
My view of the birds certainly was not as good as this one. Isn’t this fascinating? I love how the bird carries away the egg shells after the babies are born.

On My Radar~Fall

…. a baby bunny.
Georgi, there is something special about a baby bunny. I saw one a few months ago and I was enamored, I kept going out in the yard to make sure that it was ok.
Have lovely weekend.
I haven’t shopped for gifts for years. I just send Amazon gift cards. I know that’s taking the easy way out, but at least everyone gets what they want. When the grandkids were little, I gave gifts. I didn’t know about the mama birds carrying the egg shells away. Interesting.
Brenda, we to send a lot of Amazon cards but I do love to buy special gifts for some family members.
I did not know that about the mama bird either, I was fascinated by the video.
Hope you are well!
Canadian film The Grand Seduction and The Magic of Belle Isle. Would love to have my Christmas shopping done early, never happens, the most stressful and disliked tradition of the season for me.
Thank you for the film suggestions! They both looks fabulous!
As for Christmas shopping, why not make your list early and just buy one or 2 things a week. Maybe then you could get some of it done early?
HAve a wonderful week!
Good morning, Elizabeth! So glad you’re finding time to relax and enjoy the summer. Fall and the holidays are rushing up on us and early shopping is a great idea. I always plan to do it and sometimes it happens, sometimes it does not. But I’m going to make a list today and see if I can’t make a little headway. It feels so good to be finished and not rushing at the last minute. I’m looking forward to My Mother’s Wedding too. We need more moving like this so I’m counting the days. Hope you had more pool time over the weekend and a wonderful week ahead! xo
Elizabeth sounds like a lovely summer there walking to town and sitting by a pool. I’m so glad you’re getting to enjoy some down time. I can’t wait to hear about your fall travel plans.
I wish I was an early Christmas shopper. I do worry people won’t be able to return the gift if it is bought too early, so I wait until the month before usually for my family. I should so cards earlier though.
I love your burgundy outfit!
I am fascinated by birds. Having a bluebird nest last year was fun and stressful- and messy. They remove all the baby droppings and shells in a package that looks like a knapsack and drop them anywhere away from the nest to keep scent out and predators away! Our yard was a mess and even the walls of the house! Fun to see them though.
I can’t wait to watch all your videos. I love Kristin and wanted to see that film in the theater.
Have a great week. xo
Kim, how fascinating to learn about your bluebird. I had no idea that birds did this. My birds left a terrible mess on the door, thankfully all it took was some bleach to clean up the mess.
Isn’t burgundy a great color, it looks beautiful with so many colors that I love like blue and gray.
Christmas shopping is a challenge, you are so thoughtful with your gifts I do not think anyone would return them.
Have a wonderful week Kim, I have loved reading your travel posts!
