Good morning! How is your week? It has been a busy one here. Technically it is still winter but yesterday I saw my first daffodils. A welcome sign of Spring and perhaps a signal that Punxsutawney Phil was right, Spring is right around the corner. The Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl, that may not mean much to many but in my house it was cause for celebration. My husband is a life long fan and he has been waiting 50 years to see them again in the Super Bowl. Although football is not my thing it was fun to watch and see him so excited, almost like watching a kid. The January blues have passed and I have my energy back, I’m up every morning and back at yoga and some mornings I manage to get in a 3 mile walk as well. Other days I find myself at the gym in the afternoons taking a walk on the treadmill. I am not a competitive person by nature, but the treadmills at the gym allow you to “walk” and “run” with other people from around the world and lately I have found myself outrunning every person I “see” on the trail, I cannot stand to see someone ahead of me. Consequently I am running faster and longer than normal. This year I am also making major changes in my diet, as I age I have been having a lot of issues with gluten(bread, pasta, crackers, etc) and dairy. and I have had to cut back or completely eliminate it from my diet. That said, I still bake so you will see sweet treats here and occasionally I still eat all of that stuff, I suffer a bit the next day but I am not willing to totally cut it out yet. Have any of you had problems with food as you age? I am gearing up for some adventures and other life changes this year, it is too soon to talk about them now but I will let you know when things happen.

Your exercise routine is so inspirational. I am trying to work up to run a 10K, but my knees and hips are not on board with the project.
Re diet, I think people our age are going to turn out very badly health-wise. Our parents and grandparents benefitted from advances in medicine and hygiene and were adults before chemicals were widely used in farming and industrial food production or plastics wrapped around everything. Our generation, by contrast, had both from birth, and without the restraints you see today. I hate to think how much microplastic we each contain. I think a lot of these things are responsible for the gluten and dairy problems so many people experience. After all, just a few hundred years ago, people pretty much lived on bread, cheese, beans and vegetables. I heard a podcast about medieval food, and what with all the feast days, people were actually forbidden from eating meat about half the year, and even when meat was allowed it was too expensive to have much. Pretty healthy diet. What they didn't have back then was hygiene or pharmaceuticals.
I could not agree with you more! I was speaking to some friends the other day and we were all commenting that we grew up on meat and potatoes, and fruit. I took a sandwich and an apple in my lunch everyday. I ate fast food maybe one a year, and we never had chips or processed food(except the wonder bread). My grandmother or mother made any sweet treats that we ate. We ate seasonal food, and in the winter we were so excited when relatives sent oranges and grapefruit from Florida.
I would love to know more about this podcast.
As for my routine, I treat my yoga like its part of my job. It is physically and mentally the best things I have done in years. As for walking, it is my meditation and I love to take my pups, although one does not like to walk too much, to the water to see the sunrise and the birds. The other day as we were standing at the point a fox ran out.
No, I haven't really noticed changes with food as I age. I've pretty much always had to stay away from spicy foods because it gives me acid reflux. And when my hiatal hernia is acting up I have to forego caffeine. But those things have been that way for a long time. Yes, as Taste Of France said, your exercise routine is inspirational. I've barely been able to walk since I fell over the doggy steps nearly a week ago. I'm taking muscle relaxers to try and get the tightness out.
