International Picnic Day June 18th

June 18th, is International Picnic Day. I am not sure who designates these holidays but I think it is as good a reason as any to break out of your routine and celebrate summer.

How to Celebrate International Picnic Day

There are a few things that are essential for the perfect picnic in my book.

1. A beautiful location

You could pick a spot near the ocean by your favorite lake or even in your own backyard under a beautiful tree.

2. A warm blanket

A warm blanket is always a good idea, not only to use as a base layer for your picnic celebration but to wrap up with if the weather cools off too. I personally am partial to a beautiful plaid blanket but a vintage quilt or even a sheet works well.

3. A picnic basket

A picnic basket adds a little nostalgia to your celebration, however if your do not have a designated picnic basket with all of the trimmings a large tote works just as well.

4. Something savory

If you are planning a simple picnic, sandwiches are a great option. You could pick them up from the deli or make your own. If you want something a little fancier, a tomato tart, quiche,  pasta salad, cheese plate, or a charcuterie board is a nice option.

5. Something Sweet (of course)

I am partial to small hand pies, brownies, or cereal treats.

Extras

Now you could add a book, perhaps a little music and some wine as well and you would have everything you need to enjoy a perfect summer afternoon or evening.

Remember, picnic isn’t just a meal outdoors, it’s time spent enjoying friends, family, fun and food.

What do you think? Doesn’t a picnic sound like an excellent idea this week? What are your essential items for a picnic? Do you have a favorite spot, meal or beverage that you always take along?

I hope that you have a wonderful day and enjoy your picnic!
