Brooches and pin are the perfect accessory not only for the holidays but everyday. Here are 15 ways to wear brooches and add a little sparkle to your outfit.
Good morning friends! Today I am joining Kim and Juliet for a special post all about brooches. When you say the word brooch people immediately think of Queen Elizabeth, Madeline Albright (read about them here) or their grandmother. But guess what, they are back in style, AGAIN. So today I am sharing 15 ways to wear a brooch or a pin to add a little bling, a little style and an extra bit of personality to your outfit.
I have always loved brooches, and have quite a collection. Honestly, I am not sure why they have a reputation as being for “old people.” Some are from my travels, some are inherited and a few I picked up over the years from estate sales. There is a heart from the Louvre gift shop, a Weiss flower that my mother-in-law gave me to wear on my wedding day, whimsical dachshunds and lots of holiday pins.
Last year about this time, Kim and Juliet hosted an Instagram live where they talked about vintage brooches. They also asked their followers to share their bling. I shared a few examples of how to wear a brooch on weekend meanderings last year and so they are my most pinned images. This year we are doing the same, if you have a brooch or pin that you love, post a photo on Instagram and add the hashtags #Showusyourbling and #Christmaspin.
15 Ways to Wear a Brooch
#1. On a hat.
Adding a brooch to your hat is an easy way to add a little bling to your outfit as well as seasonal flare. This is a Wyeth wool Billie fedora(no longer available), a vintage sterling reindeer pin and Blackwatch plaid gloves.

#2. Clipped on Shoes
Clips were used years ago to embellish shoes, if you can’t find a pair then use a pair of brooches. Or take the backs off earrings or brooches and glue on shoe clip backs. If you are wearing cloth shoes you can attach your brooch with the pin.

#3. Pined to your gloves

#4. In Your Hair

#5. Paired with Pearls
Update your string of pearls with a vintage brooch. You can also add brooches to chains, ribbon or other necklaces and bracelets.
#6. Center of a Double Breasted Suit
A statement brooch worn between the buttons of your double breasted suit looks gorgeous.

#7. On a Headband.
Honestly WTF made a Dolce & Gabbana inspired headband using vintage brooches and an inexpensive velvet headband. This would be a great looks for the holidays or even a casual wedding using a white headband.

#8. Clustered At Your Waist
A group of 2 or 3 brooches on the waist of a skirt is my favorite way to wear them.

#9. On Your Pants Pocket
Add two or three pins or brooches to your pants or jeans.

#10. At the tips of your shirt collar.
This is such a cleaver idea and an additional way to style collared shirts.

#11. In the Cowl of a Scarf
A chunky cowl scarf looks beautiful with a seasonal brooch. Even though your are bundles against the cold you can still look fashionable.

#12. At Your Collar
Show off your brooch by pinning it front and center between your collar.

#13. Lapel
A traditional place to place a brooch but it sure does make a statement when the brooch is oversized.

#14. On a Turtleneck Sweater
A turtleneck sweater can overwhelm your face, call attention to it with a brooch like Carolyn did.

#15. All Over A Sweater
This is probably a bit over the top but you could add several of your favorites around the neckline.

Are Brooches in Fashion?
Like everything in the world of fashion trends, brooches have been “in” some years and out the next. Apparently, they are back in style this year. #Brooch has over 100 million hits on TikTok in 2023.
If you don’t follow the trends, and I don’t, brooches never went out of style. They are classic piece of jewelry to wear all year long.
Where to buy brooches
Brooches are available at many of your favorite department stores, especially at the holidays, as well as garage sales, auctions, eBay and Etsy.
I recommend buying vintage. Pre-loved pieces are an excellent value, sustainable, better quality and they are unique. That said I have purchased brooches from Marshall Fields, Dillards, and Talbots in years past.

Hi Elizabeth,
I enjoyed seeing all the brooches and the beautiful photo of you wearing them at your waist on the belt. It also is good conversation starter.
Thank you Katherine! I would love to know if you have any brooches!
Elizabeth, You have given me so many ideas! I just love this post.. Especially nice to see you and how you have your brooches on the waist! Gorgeous.
I can see why this was the most saved posts. People forget how very many ways these can be used. I just love the hair idea..and the center of a shirt or jacket!

Elizabeth! You really blung it. I knew there were many ways to wear brooches, but wow … so many clever, clever ideas I never thought of. And I adore them clustered at your waist. You look so elegant and ready to attend the most beautiful holiday party. This has been so fun … but if I’m not careful I’m going to suddenly own 100+ brooches. Uh oh … we may have created a monster. Happy Holiday Season! xo
Juliet, you can never have enough brooches! There are too many places to wear them. I think they are the perfect accessory.
Thanks to Kim I think we have a new tradition to share with all of our blog readers.

What a fun post Elizabeth. I love the picture of you in front of the tree, you look stunning. And the sweater with the brooches all over was so fun.
Thank you Wendy. I would love to see some of your bling! Have a wonderful week.
I don’t own any brooches but you made these look so beautiful, I think I need to find one. Particularly love the scarf and gloves options.
Rachael, I think that is a great idea! There are so many beautiful “pre-loved” pieces. I am sure you can find one at Oxfam or a car boot or even a pop up holiday fair! When you get one come back and let me know what it looks like!
Did you get any snow today? Or did it miss you?
I do love a beautiful brooch. Thanks for the inspiration to open up my jewelry box and take a walk down memory lane. I’m going to take these tips and wear a few this Christmas season.
