I LOVE homemade and handmade gifts, they are the perfect gift to take to parties, place in gift baskets, add to a bottle of wine or champagne, and to send to friends and family.
Every year I make several boxes of homemade treats, including Amish Caramel Corn, Fairy Food, Sugar & Spice Nuts, Sugar Cookies, Cinnamon Stars, Apricot Walnut Rugelach, among other treats for my family and friends that do not like to bake or simply do not have the time. This year I will be adding a few things to their boxes including the easiest gift ever, Homemade French Chocolate Chaud Mix.
I am not kidding you when I tell you that the hardest part of this gift is finding a great container to put it in. In my case I decided to use a locally made pottery jar. You could do the same or you could use a Weck jar, a canning jar or even a cellophane bag tied with twine.
Chocolate Chaud Mix
1 Pound Guittard chocolate bars
Place chocolate bars into food processor and pulse a few times until chocolate it chopped. Or if you do not have a food processor, roughly chop chocolate into small pieces.
Place piece of chopped chocolate into jars and add directions.
2 cups of milk
9 oz. chopped chocolate
1-2 tablespoons brown sugar(optional)
Heat the milk in a medium saucepan, once the milk is warm remove from heat. Add the chocolate and whisk until smooth and the chocolate is melted. Then return the pan to heat and cook at a very low boil for 2 -3 minutes, whisk constantly. Be careful so the mixture does not burn. Remove from heat, pour into glasses. Taste and add brown sugar if it is to strong. The chocolat chaud tastes better as it ages, I like to make a large pitcher and then keep it in the refrigerator and heat up a cup as needed.
